I think somewhere around the 2k mark, may be slightly more.
The gaskets themselves are not that hard to do, but there are a lot of parts to take off to get to them, basically the whole top of the engine comes off, so it takes time.
Then it has to go back together, new oil, coolant, a lot of work!

    What year model?

The earlier GEMS engines are easier to work on than the later Bosch/Motronics.

Are you certain the head gasket has failed? What are the symptoms? (I have had two gaskets blow out the side so it was obvious from the chuffing sound.)

If you have it done, I suggest both heads be done and you fit MLS head gaskets. Ensure they use new head bolts. Don't reuse the old ones.

I have just had both head gaskets renewed along with all the rest of the top end seals and gaskets, The cost for this work was about $2000 ( I had a heap of other work done so I can't give you a definite figure) from Whyatts in Geraldton.
This work also comes with a warranty

If you can do this work yourself and have ALL the tools it will be much cheaper I would think.
