    Unhappy p38 update

Hi guys, well i just can't seem to stop learning about these cars. I bought a lift kit , second hand, and longer bags( no brand on them so no idea where they came from) and sensor extensions, only to find after sitting on them for months that only a few things even go on my 2001 rangie. i could only use the bottom half of sensor extensions, only the front extended braided brake lines, can't even see rears for my model so no idea, the radiator i got was for a gems as well and top hose wrong side, sold anyway now but ...really? i put the new bags under the car only to find the front two leaking through the top, i thought ok ill just use new o rings i had from a kit i bought earlier. no, no you wont, these new ones only have 1 o ring not 2, and they are smaller, i broke a collet trying to get it out as has no lip on it, anyway if anyone knows about these airbags, aluminium bottom, 2" longer than stock please let me know as i've had to keep stock bags in front with lifting spacer.

please don;t think i have any animosity toward the sellers of these bits, i didn't do my research. i just assumed a lot of things..

any advice would be really appreciated.

    deep breath, cold beer........next.

    Mate, bad luck!

I have a remake of the old hard range kit myself and it only comes with extensions for the lower part of the sensors anyway so I would not worry about that. Sure, the geometry of the sensors will be ever so slightly of but that should not be a problem. As far as the brake lines go: There is a relocation bracket for the rear which moves the support for the ABS and brake lines a bit lower and that has proven to be enough for the rear in my experience. So extended brake lines for the front is all you need really I have not been able to find those though.

As far as the bags are concerned, I know of no other companies making these for the P38 other than the originals mabe by dunlop or arnott. You could have gen II's but they were made of plastic as well iirc.

I'd join you with that beer if it were'nt for the fact that it is monday morning down here and the boss would have something to say about that

    Cheers!

hi Prelude, yeah thanks mate, a bit of a relief to hear that, i will get a photo next time im down the shed to give you a better idea on the bags. the rear brake lines idea is cool, i bought and installed the new rear abs sensor to find it was different as well, a little shorter and mounts in different spots, so thats cable tied to suit as well. The extensions seam to be fine so should be ok. I have a gen 11 bag there already so i might get another gen 11 and leave it at that.. with the bags i bought i could easily go to 4" lift as bags are 2" and spacers are 2"..so just happy medium it with 3".

Time for another beer, cans till my Craft brew is finished doing its business in a week or so....cheers.

    My boss encourages me...stress relief....

I did not know the gen II's were longer as well. I have found with my gen III's that 2" may be a bit of a "stretch" (pun intended). I have the 2" spacers with my hard range kit and I got the 2" longer travel shocks from terrafirma in my case. In the back, due to the geometry of the shocks the 2" extra length translates into more travel then 2" for sure. on full droop, or axle twisters I find the bags to be pretty damn near the end of their travel or I would risk popping one. In the front, since the shocks travel vertically I have no extra travel with the spacers basicly since I can not go up much further (the bumpstops are lengthened to avoid crushing a bag etc).

in any case, I do like my gen III's since they have a different geometry in the lower part. This makes them non linear springs effectively In highway mode (so the bags are deflated quite a bit and they roll over the broad part of the bottom) they are a lot stiffer which makes for better road handling properties, in raised mode they present less resistance giving us way better flex. Perhaps not as much as supahdupah shocks and spring setups with 10" lifts but a lot better then the standard bags. Just fyi

    Cheers mate!
