another EKA key code lockout question...

    Hi guys,

For one reason or another, the 99 P38 ended up parked much longer than I'd intended - the result, a flat battery, and the need to input the EKA code. After charging the battery it is displaying "key code lockout".

I left it with the battery connected for half an hour and the message went away.

I started with four locks, before proceeding to enter the code, which was supplied by JLR from the VIN.

The car shows no signs of registering any input at any point during the procedure, but after 3 attempts will go back into key code lock. Wait half an hour and one can have another go. Does this mean the BECM is basically OK and doesn't need to be sent off to be unlocked?

If I lock four times, then try to input the first digit, if I deliberately go beyond the value of the first digit (2), it never shows any acknowledgement as some have suggested.

Sometimes, when initialising it with the four locks, it will, at the second or third turn, make a noise from the locking mechanisms which I presume is super lock.

With the driver's door open, turning the key to unlock causes the car to respond - at differing times the car will respond to lock or unlock inputs which leads me to believe the lock and switches are ok. Also, before I fixed the key buttons shortly before the car was parked, I was lock/unlocking it with the key blade, anyway.

I can open the boot and RHR door, but neither of the left doors will open. I can open and close the driver's door and have no alarm (but do get the door ajar locking bleep), but opening the bonnet will make it go off.

Should the car give me a sign it is ready for the code, after the four lock turns? The dash top LED seems to flash at the same rate, and the sidelight dash light doesn't come on (but I don't recall ever seeing it on).

I have a Nanocom for TD5. Can I get the code and cable for P38 and disable the alarm/imobiliser without inputting the code (perhaps the BECM is from another car?)?

If the BECM is not original to the car, can the EKA be determined from the serial number?

    If... if... if... ?

A tip - it seems that if TRS replace a becm the generic code is 1234.... hurrah!
