Those who are familiar with my adventures know that on my first long trip I did a wheel bearing, the front right. I ordered new bearings and replaced it by pressing out the old and putting in a new one. I also replaced the front left at around the same time just to be safe. I drove around for another year or so and replaced both rear bearings, also just to be safe again. They were fairly cheap back then.

Last year the front right wheel bearing was again busted. Fortunately I noticed it around MOT time so I was not stranded anywhere. Again, I pressed in a new bearing which was a very easy job since I had recently cleaned and greased it all I did a few long trips last year (nothing australian scale though) so let's say 15K at most with very few water crossings and about 25% off road in all (nothing too tough) and lo and behold.. this MOT, the front right bearing was broken AGAIN.

I have pulled a hub from a wrecker and put that in it's place to see what happens and I will be taking the old one apart very carefully to examine if I can find a reason for it's failure but...

Does anyone have any experience with replacing the bearings and failures with them? I am inclined to think that the "cheap" bearings from say britpart and the likes would be of lesser quality. The one argument against that is that all other bearings are just fine, except for the bloody front right every time.

Also, I am now contemplating if I should replace the bearing with a proper SKF one (though they did sky-rocket in price in a years time) or replace the complete hub (and if so, original or 3rd party).

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
