    Steering Box

Can some one please check direction on rotation of their steering box.

    See this pic
    p38 gearbox.jpg

If the input shaft at the bottom of the pick is turned right (clockwise) what happens with output shaft on the right of the pic. When the input is turned to the right, does the out lever move towards you or away from you.

    Thanks

If the input shaft at the bottom of the pick is turned right (clockwise) what happens with output shaft on the LEFT of the pic. When the input is turned to the right, does the out lever move towards you or away from you.

    Thanks

I tried to edit the above post but the edit icon does not show - note the output shaft is on the left of the pic not the right.

No one with a P38 steering box or have all gone to the big scrapyard in the sky

    Cheers

    Garry

PS - the edit icon is on this post but not my first post - odd.

Nah mate, bloody corona crap keeping me very busy.

Before I run out and check, I have a LDH vehicle. Is that of any use? I guess the steering box works the same regardless but just checking

Thanks but no - dont know what a LDH is so googled it - it is some disease Lactate dehydrogenase - Wikipedia

I need to know specifically what action a RHD P38 Range Rover steering box does.

    Cheers

Maybe your question should be “ does the drop arm point forward?”
if it does the answer is obvious whether lhd or rhd
    ie clockwise = right
    regards Philip
that is if it is like a d2 with the steering arm in front of the axle.

Thanks but please do not confuse the issue.

The simple question is - in the pic I posted - when the input shaft is turned to the right (clockwise), does the out lever move towards you or away from you.

Thanks but please do not confuse the issue.

I was trying to advise the universal truth that is if the linkages are as per LR just about always does, the steering box is behind the axle( for crash safety) and the linkages are in front then the output shaft must go right for clockwise movement of the input shaft.

BUT I am not sure of a P38 but true for D2 .

For the LHD version, indeed not LDH :P turning left the arm moves towards me, turning right is the other way around. Since with RHD the steeringbox and wheel are merely shifted over and the steering linkage is mirrored as well the behavior should be the same, it' just shifted over as far as I can tell.

    Cheers,
