This happened a month ago due to a leaking fuel line.
I had it running better than ever. Thanks to you guys I had everything working as it should and was just a beautiful car to drive...

Thanks guys,
For anyone else with a Gems P38, the issue was where the flexible fuel line is crimped onto the rigid steel fuel line at the injector fuel rail. That joint with age can leak, which cleverly is positioned right above the exhaust manifold…
Bear in mind this was a month ago, so after sufficient ‘mourning’ time I decided to replace it with another immaculate white one. Just not a P38…the new one is a 2012 RRS 5.0 S/C which arrived yesterday from Brisbane.
I’ve already installed a fire extinguisher.

On a further note,
The speed of which it went from a strange smell and puff of smoke to a raging inferno is quite frightening.
My wife was with me and our dogs were in the back (thankfully our kids weren’t). Thanks to strangers helping, we just had enough time to get a few possessions out, but not all.
Even that was nerve-racking due to the noises of suspension airbags and tyres hissing and exploding and glass cracking.

interesting point is it looks like the firies had just arrived in your pic.
how long did it take for them to attend?
not being critical at all.
I carry a 5kg extinguisher on my vehicle.....if you'd had one the same size , do you think you could have controlled the fire?
Oh no, that's devestating!
I'm glad you all got out ok unharmed.
How do you like the new 2012 model?
Terrible situation, but glad you both escaped safely.

They were there rapidly...maybe 5 or 6 minutes after we called.
I stopped because I kept saying I could smell Windex 🥴 and then saw a small puff of smoke...so I was on to it early. If I had a fire extinguisher I reckon I could have controlled it at that point.
It was bumper to bumper traffic on the Princes Highway through Nowra at the time. I truly thought at some point someone was going to appear from a car with an extinguisher. The closest I got was someone appearing with a bottle of coolant...
