    Help with P38 scan tool with GEMS diagnotics

    Hi all, I'm looking to borrow, lease or buy a scan tool that can read and actuate across the EAS, ECU and BeCM systems. I've looked at so many (Nanocom, Hawkeye, Faultmate, etc) specific to the p38 but there are very few turning up on the 2nd hand market and it seems no-one really rents them out as a service.

    I've been restoring my P38 for the past 18 months and I'm almost ready to turn it over for the first time...

    Before I do, I'd like to eliminate as many potential gremlins that might prevent a clean start up. It's a refurbed engine so I'm keen to have an uneventful 20min run-in

    If anyone knows of someone owning a scan tool in my area I'd greatly appreciate the lead.

    Scan Tool

    G'Day Steve,
    I reckon it's worth buying a new Nanocom if you are embarking on a serious relationship with a P38. You won't just be finding it handy at startup, you will be using it on a regular basis to fine tune all the P38 systems and fault finding etc throughout your ownership.
    I have one and without it the fault finding, calibration etc. would have been all but impossible without visits to the (horribly expensive) dealership or specialist......and I am a mechanic/technician with over 30 years full time experience. The cost buying direct from Black Box solutions for me a bit over a year ago was about $900- and I don't regret it for a minute.
    I live in Torquay so well out of your area.

    Thanks Alan.... you prompted me to re-think on purchasing a new Nonocom. Which I've now done. It's thrown up a PCV malfunction and an open circuit/grd short on my injectors which I wouldn't have found without a fair bit of grief. Appreciate your wisdom!

    An essential part of the P38 toolbox. Glad it has helped you already. Once you're out and about if you are having a cruise down to the Surf Coast, PM me if you like and drop in to Torquay. We can compare notes on our Rangies.
