Just when you think everything is going well.

I have pulled my work ute apart to fix some oil leaks. No big deal. So I go out after lunch to grab some parts, and I notice the range rover is a bit low on fuel. So I put $100 worth in the tank and continue on my way. I only get about 2 to 3 hundred meters and she coughs and splutters and nearly stalls. I pull over and let it idle a bit and continue on my way. It continues to play up, so I carefully cross the bridge to get the P38 to work and on the hoist. I undid the fuel filter expecting to see a heap of water or fine dirt, but it was clean. By this time it is after 5.00 and time to lock up. It played up all the way home, so I have put a bit of metho in the tank and I will keep looking for the problem tomorrow. I will be changing service stations this time regardless. I think the one I have been using must be unlucky or something.

Could it be that $100 barely touches the sides ATM???

Just when you think everything is going well.

    Hi Tins and others,
So I drove the P38 to the other side of town, carefully. It drove a lot better with the metho in it. I put a scan tool on it and there were no codes of course. So I added a bit more metho and then I thought I will drive it home for lunch. It played up all the way home so on the way back to work I called into a mates workshop and he listened to the motor and said he thought it was contaminated fuel, and he had some fuel conditioner there so we put 200ml in the tank. It was better but still a long way from being good. So when I got it back to the workshop I removed the cover over the hole I had cut in the floor and I removed the fuel pump/ sender unit and the fuel was a milky mess. I drained a bit out into a a container and put the fuel pump back in and did a fuel pressure and flow test. This showed the pump was doing what it should. So tomorrow I will pick up some drums on the way to work and I will drain out that milky mess, about 75 liters. And then I will refill with some 98 octane. Then I will need to find a lot of weeds to kill with the old fuel.
    Regards,
    Alan

    Hi Folks,
When I jumped the P38 to go to work,Crank but No start. I checked under the and all looked ok. I checked for fuel pressure, nothing. So I headed out in the Wife's BMW to get some drums and 20 lt. of clean fuel. Lucky I had cut the hole in the floor to access the fuel pump. I drained all the fuel out of the tank and connected the fuel pump to a battery and gave it a technical tap and it was running again. I put it all back together and took it for a run. The motor seems a lot better but not 100%. I think the injectors are still partly blocked, so I have now put some injector cleaner in the tank. But the gearbox does not know what to do. So I am off to the auto trans shop in the morning. Apparently if the motor is playing up it can upset the transmission computer.

    Hi Folks,
well the injector cleaner did it's job, and we cleared the fault codes and she is running smooth and changing gears. I will give a good run so it can relearn everything and I hope I don't have any more trouble for a while. All I can say is thank god I cut that hole in the floor to access the fuel pump.
    Regards,
    Alan
