    Any "Joying" experts out there?

Looking at ICE replacements for a '97 HSE and came across the offerings from Joying which seem to represent good value for money and offer a multitude of functions. Particularly interesting is the 7 inch screen and possibility of a ribbon cable to a remote mounted main unit (in cubby box?). At the moment there is a 7 inch Joying designed for a Honda on special on the Au site at $300 (JY-HQ135N4G).

I cannot get any sense from the chat line re: actual dimensioned drawings and using a ribbon cable for their systems (which they sell).
Has this been considered, or done by anyone?
    TIA

    Hi Steve,
if you look for my post in Keithy's post about what have you done to your P38, you will find some photos of the Joying head unit I fitted to my P38. It is a 8.8 inch unit from memory. The hardest part was getting the courage to cut the center dash panel. But once that was done the rest of the job was not that bad. The air conditioning aspirator is now mounted above the cubby hole and sucks air up from within the cubby hole. I have always intended to do a full wright up on fitting the Joying head unit but time has not been my friend lately. Also mounted in the cubby hole is a 5 way OTG USB hub, which allows me to have all my music saved to a couple of USB's and plugged into the USB hub. I can also charge my phone from there. and I can plug in my portable DVD player in to there and play a movie through there. For the passengers to watch of course, not the driver. Let me know if you want any more information. Regards,
    Alan Temperley

    Thanks Alan.
Yes, I had seen that post and was very impressed. I assume you have the display and main unit in the new hole you have made (?). My unanswered query to the Joying chat line was if I could make the install easier by putting the display where you have yours and fit the main unit somewhere else connected by a ribbon cable. It seem some Joyings will do this and some won't. They don't seem to want to explore this for me. (I'd be happy with a 7" display.)

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
yes my main unit is remotely mounted and connected with a ribbon. The main unit is mounted vertically down a bit lower. If you look on Rangerovers.pub, MartyUK did a good wright up on fitting one of the 8.8 inch units. I will try to find some more photos of how I went about fitting my unit later tonight and post them on here.
    Regards,
    Alan

Do you have a model number? Seems that most come as a display and main unit with a 'short' ribbon cable and some have/had a 1 meter cable option. I'd be happy with a 7 inch display and a main unit somewhere in the dash - maybe behind where the existing unit is. The chat line just can't get the comcept and keep telling me it is impossible for a Range Rover!

If it's just the short ribbon cable holding you back, these are easy as pie to fabricate because they are an insulation displacement type which means all you need to do is squeeze the cable onto the connector to join it. A small vice makes the perfect squeezing tool. IIRC, the cable is the same as old school IDE drives and the actual components, if not a complete assembly, should be readily available from places like Jaycar or Altronics.

: Any "Joying" experts out there?

    Hi Steve,
I can't find my receipt tonight. I might find it tomorrow. I just looked up 8.8 inch joying head unit , and found what looks to be the correct one. The number is SKU: hqsoin4g-2. I will see if I can add some photos. See if you can make any sense out of these photos. Regards, Alan
