Ray, open the fuse box and see if the RL10 position is filled. If so, and you have a large heatsunk resistor behind the LH headlight, then it has had the air con compressor mod done.
If not, then I recommend fitting this kit. It's very easy to fit and costs under $100. It will overcome the problem of low voltage to the compressor clutch.
There is a TSB on this.
Ray, if you have the RAVE CD-ROM, look up the Technical Bulletins->Index Selection->Heating/AirCon->Range Rover->0010 Intermittent Operation of the ATC Link Harness
the kit you need is the: YMQ104590AA Kit - link harness - compressor.
The kit contains the link harness, relay, relay label, 10 amp fuse, fuse label, 2 screws and cable ties.
You might also check if you have the Alternator link harness also mentioned in this TSB. Mine had it but not the compressor link harness. If yopu don't have it, get it, too. It's not expensive. YSB106340 Link harness - alternator
If you don't have the TSB, PM me with a fax number and I'll fax it tomorrow.
my fax number is : .................
thanks Ron
thanks Ron fax received :D:D
now how do i go about getting the said fix for the wifes car ??
I ordered the kit from either Trivetts (Scouse) who are my local dealers or British Motor Imports (I can't remember which). You should be able to get it from a local dealer. It's an easy fit.
Now you have the instructions you can see if your car already has the alternator link cable. It probably does.
Oh, is your VIN prior to the no. listed on the TSB? I don't know if it is needed on later cars.
It fixed my intermittent compressor failure to switch on problems. I'd already removed the compressor shim about 4 years earlier.
The other problem is the connector to the blower motors. Do you want that TSB, too?
