The failure of my fuel pump has been the trigger to fit the Brown Davis long range tank (155 litres vs 100 litres) I've bought from Hardy in August 2006.

As it was a second hand tank, we didn't have any fitting instructions (more later) - that wasn't Hardy's fault, he didn't have any instructions either and Brown Davis never responded to any emails of mine for them.

Well, we fitted the tank today. The biggest problem was fitting the new pump. There is no way it would fit with the rubber sealing ring in place.

After a few judicious measurements we found that the hole in the BD tank was about 6mm smaller than the original. Add to that the fact that we had not ordered a new sealing ring and the old one was swollen. (A tip for you - buy a new ring with the pump - also get olives and nuts as they aren't supplied with the pump either. ).

I rang Brown Davis and was able to get some help. It seems the sealing ring isn't used in its original form. We had tyo cut the top of the ring and use just the top. Fortunately, we were able to find a ring (from a Discovery diesel tank) which wasn't swollen and we used that.

Well, it's in and I now have 155 litres of petrol and 54 litres of LPG.

I'll soon have the best equipped P38A that never goers off road!
