All p38 owners up to mid 1999 please read.

Hi gents, quick update. I have found recently that a few 2000 model vehicles still have the older modulators. Must be the runout of components during production. Regards Russell.

Thanks Russell - sounds like there is a pretty high chance that my 2/99 build 4.0 has it too then.

I've been umm'ing and ah'ing about whether to get your kit. Now I'm convinced.

I think you would have seen from my post that I finally had a go at bleeding the brakes myself and it all went quite well.

Straight afterwards I was happy that I had made an improvement.

The pump would run for about 6 - 8 seconds and would hold its pressure for about one minute before cycling again ( this is just while idling, no brake activity). Before the bleed it was worse, it would run for about 15 seconds and stop and cycle again about 30 seconds later.

Now almost 2 weeks after the bleed I find it has deteriorated and is running more frequently again.

Here's a possible issue I found. The bleed valve on the front of the master cylinder (modulator) was very tight and I struggled to loosen it at first. I sprayed a tiny bit of WD40 around the outside of the thread and after it had all run away, I am sure that I saw a small bit of air bubbling from around the thread. If this is the case, do the think it could be the source of my issue regarding pressure loss ?

I have another bleed screw from another modulator, should I swap it over ?

Is it wise or practical to put a bit of non locking thread sealant on the bleed valve ?

As usual any advice greatly appreciated.

Well my Dad and Brother fit the kit last friday and fixed it:D

Very happy indeed.. took them just over 5 hours from start to finish.

CD was very detailed which helped alot.

Do you know if there is a difference in part numbers between the "plastic" and "steel" washer modulators?

With you finding some 2000 models with the plastic washers, it makes me think, did some slip through to 2001/2002, and what if a modulator was replaced on a 2001/2002 model?

How long do you think you'll keep producing these kits? I am looking a purchasing a '01/'02 P38 in Sept or Oct and might just be in line for a kit, and do the replacement for peace of mind.

Good question. The part number really dosen't matter as I have found steel and plastic components in the same part numbered modulators. So yes your thoughts are true they may have run out the plastic components in some of the later modulators.
I'll always keep the kits in stock, even if or when demand slows. Regards Russell.

So what you are saying is there is no way of telling if it has plastic or metal parts without stripping it down?

How many post 99 brake units have you found plastic parts in?
