Smile Just bought a P38a Rangie

    G'day guys,

I've just managed to acquire a P3a Rangie. I know, I know, I'll take condolences later!

Its a 99 4.0 S with 144k on the clock, and it seems to be quite good!

    Some issues.

    • The front diff is a little noisy at up to about 60 kmh
    • The front oil seal leaks a bit - its not flooding the place but there is a definite leak. I've serviced the car and added some Nulon stop leak. We'll see how it goes.
    • Aircon needs a regas.
    • Some minor dings and scuffs.
    • Rear load space cover missing
    • Front seats are non electric and have no lumbar support adjustment, which I miss. We'll have to see whats available.

But it drives beautifully! I took the wife for a drive down the Great Ocean Road yesterday - as far as the arch at Eastern View - and it was great! A lot less body roll than the 92 RRC that I have (now for sale!).

My eventual aim for the car is long distance touring. I also enjoy a bit of offroad stuff - nothing too drastic - when I get time. But first I will have to settle it down, get the RWC done etc. Last time I did some of that it was in the Wombat State Forest and we had a great time!

    Good on you!

Same question about the 92 RRC as above. Where is it advertised?
    Cheers

    Congratulations Willem, we salute you.

Hope you gets lots of enjoyment out of your new rig.

Lots of great tracks in the Wombat SF, my folks live right on the edge of it. When staying there I like to go for a quick run through.

    Cheers

    Congrats on the new ride

Why don't you get that front diff attended to while you still have the RRC at hand ... You may need to replace the pinion bearing & seal

    Thanks for asking!

    92 RRC Vogue SE
    260k kms
    LPG/ petrol
    ARB bullbar
    ARB rear bumper/ towbar
    Rola roof racks
Aspen silver colour/ grey cloth interior.
    Auto
Electric windows/ seats/ sunroof. All good.
4 good tyres - Firestone Wilderness AT with about 70% wear left. Spare quite serviceable.
    Bilstein shocks
There are no significant oil leaks

The car had a top end overhaul about three years ago and has run fine ever since. Really reliable. The car gets a lot of daily use and has given no problems motorwise.
Coil springs were replaced about three years ago.
    Wheel alignment just done.
The only real problem I have had was that I had to replace a CV joint front left about 6 months ago.
Regularly serviced using top oil - usually Penrite HPR Gas - and new filter.

    All in good condition, except:

    Windscreen needs replacing.
ABS pressure vessel may need replacing - I think the ABS pump runs a bit too often. It runs about every third or fourth brake application. I understand its supposed to run every sixth. But then it does everything else right.
Some minor dings - carpark stuff.
Roof lining sagged - missing from sunroof blind.

The car is registered in Victoria until February 09, and is sold without RWC. $4400

Thanks for the tip, Mike, but I do have another car anyway - a 95 VW Caravelle. I haven't worked out how to fit 6 kids in the Rangie!

But I will get that noisy diff attended to - though its not that loud (yet). You can hear it if you listen for it, usually when cruising at a steady speed, up to about 60 kmh. Its certainly on the 'to do' list though!

Another thing that I do want to attend to is getting LPG fitted. Does anyone have a comment on that - is there a particular system that works well on these. I've read elsewhere on this forum that the old style mixer setup that works well on the RRC doesn't work so well on the P38 with the Thor system. Any comments/ ideas etc would be appreciated.

    Nice one!

They're a great drive, had mine on the Stockton sand dunes yesterday and didn't let me down. Nothing better than listening to lounge jazz while you roar up to the peak of massive dune - hell yeah!
