Hi, sometimes you need o solder the - contact from the battery to the contact on the PCB, as the contact on the cover that screws on is not very good after a while.

For the handbrake gaitor, you need to open the center console lid, and undo the 2 screws at the front on the power window controller. Then you need to remove the handbrake handle. It is not stuck on with anything, it is just a tight fit, pull and twist it, and it will eventually slide off. Unplug the window controller, and remove from the console. Then you can unclip the gaitor from the underside.

The gaiter is stapled to a plastic frame. You need to staple the new gaiter to that frame.

Hi Talldude - just to clarify... did you resynch according to the Owner's Handbook? i.e. put key in starter switch. it doesn't say in the book, but I found that pressing the lock button while it is in helped me on a recent occassion when I swapped the batteries.

    to replace the handbrake gaitor...
    - remove the window switch panel by undoing the 2 screws visible when you open the cubby box lid
    - you might need to disconnect the wiring harness to the panel to make it easier to manipulate the panel and the handbrake
    - grab the handbrake grip and twist/pull it gently until it slides off the brake
    - replace the gaitor

    cheers, Paul.

I thought resynching the keys was done by the drivers door lock.
Lock manually & hold there, press the lock button on the remote & poke your tongue out to the left with the wind blowing from the South.

That's how I've always done mine & others anyway .

I tried everything even swearing at it, hitting it but alas no luck. might have to solder something.

Its strange because the light works on the remote.

    Nothing should need soldering then.

Has this remote worked in the past?
Does the mechanical side of the key work all the locks?

    Whereabouts in Sydney are you?
Some areas have high radio interference (Hornsby, Chatswood, Nth Sydney). Someone may be near by to help too.

I live in Brighton le Sands, and the key works in all the locks.

Its strange because its the spare key that the remote thing does not work.

the key I use all the time works fine.

But I was told that the key hasnt worked for a while. My father in law was quoted $600 to get it fixed!

A replacment remote is around the $300 mark. The problem is knowing which remote to order & which frequency to choose.

If the car has had a lockset replacement, then you may never be able to order a suitable remote.
Hopefully that's not the case & the car will still be original.
