    Exclamation Spark Plug Loose

    G'Day Guys,

So im not a very happy camper....i went to change my spark plugs and well guess what two of the spark plugs are loose in there holes! at first i was like this will be fine...but i took my car for a bit of a bush bash and well water got on the engine and some went in the spark plug hole!

oh btw in my defense the people that did my gas conversion i belive cross threaded the plugs...i know this because i did the spark plugs first and noticed no play at all.

    what do i do guys?

    thanks mike.

There are things called a "Heli-coil", and good engine shop will be able to put them in. But it will require the removal of the heads from your engine.

You could just do the spark plug threads that are damaged, but I would do all 8, it shouldn't be that much more, and will save having to take the heads off again should a spark plug be cross threaded later.

If you go down this route, you'll need to coat the threads of the spark plug in a compound that will stop the heli-coil and spark plug from "rusting/glueing" together. In the aircraft industry we use a variety of products (C2000 is one of them) but basically the product will have to be a graphite based compound that can handle very high temperatures.

A decent operator will be able to do this in situ.

You should always put a thin film of something like Loctite high temperature nickel anti-seize on spark plugs whether going into aluminium or cast iron. Do NOT use copper anti-seize compounds on aluminium.
