Popped off the LH inner wheel arch on the weekend. Rave says to take the wheel off first, but I didn't - pic below show why
this gave me a good view of the air bag top housing. Are these spacers normal, or is this my front lift? I've never been too sure whether my front lift is achieved through these or adjusting the EAS setting.
Cheers, Paul.

yep Gen 3's I do believe. There are a lot of random pics of my bump stops and bags over at http://paulp38a.com/gallery/v/99RR/BStops/ if you care.
change the bags this way? don't quite follow... it is only the bags holding the car at that height in the pic. Perhaps raising the car to that height or a bit more, chocking under the bumps, then defalting the EAS and removing the bags?
As for the spacers, I haven't looked at a "normal" P38A in a long time so I don't know if they look right either.

ah cool, that explains it then. eb220 was over on the weekend and reckoned they were the lift bits too. Mystery solved
And no, Gen III's don't come with spacers. These spacers were part of the HRA lift kit... or at least the prototype of it. This car belonged to the original owner of HRA and was his test bed for HRA product development, so the bits I have on mine might be similar to HRA products but are not necessarily the same... if that makes sense.

I am just wondering if I have the right idea of what is happening with my 95 p38 suspendersions. It feels like it bumps quite sharply on little obstacles like supermarket speed humps and small corrugations and potholes. Have heard these things should waft along and smooth out stuff like that.
I had the bags done about 2 1/2 years ago and am guessing that this type of ride is due to shocks now being shot. Would that sharp reaction be a result of no (or severly reduced) shock absorption? Also, Given bags are good but I may need to replace the shocks, what can I do to get a bit more height out of my "pretty pig" whilst fixing the shocks? Like ah, can I buy extended shocks and bag spacers without spending a whole heap more than what standard replacement shocks would cost? In saying this, I have been happy to date with my 33" offroad wheels/tyres adding lift, but figure if I'm spending I may as well get the whole thing an extra 30mm or so away from damage... Suppose it goes without saying that I dont want to end up with other issues though.
Any suggestions-thoughts?
Sort of I guess... 2" lift due to spacers front and rear, and approx extra 3" of travel due to Gen III's. When using 33" tyres, and extra 2" of lift.
I also have disconnecting front swaybars that help to use the extra travel and give flex.
End result is that I can adjust height up a bit further using EAS if I want. Trade-off is bouncier ride at high height and less travel before maxing out.
At low/highway height it is still taller than a "normal" P38A so I do suffer a little in terms of handling at highway speeds, however the combo of Bilstein shocks and Gen III's (stiffer at low heights) should compensate a fair bit.
Yes you would, it is still a Range Rover. I can honestly say that I haven't saved any money by buying this car... I'm probably spending more because I'm not afraid to tinker with it. My last P38A looked pretty even though it was great off-road (some pics here 1995 Range Rover P38A HSE), but this one is just ugly in comparison, so I have few reservations about doing "interesting stuff" to it.. I know it is not going to ruin the look of it
Cheers, Paul.

My understanding is that sharpness and jarring is usually caused by the initial dampening of the shocks being too tight rather than worn. I've been told that a good shock setup is for the initial dampening to be soft and then firming up rapidly, giving smoothness over small bumps and then tightening up around bends etc...
Other thing to check is the bump stops. Mine has improved a lot since I shortened the extended bump stops.
If you are running 33"s then you must already have some decent lift unless you've cut the guards. Even with the 2" llift on mine, I still get rubbing on low and standard EAS heights. Are you running Gen II or Gen III's?
There are some random pics of the EAS and lift setup of mine at Bump Stops and EAS but I haven't narrated it yet.
There are a couple of issues that I'm still wanting to address with the extra lift:
1. castor angle of the steering due to twisting of the diff. Fix = spacers or lowering of front raduis arms?
2. vibration in front propshaft. Fix = double cardan joint?
Cheers, Paul.

I find the same with mine. Don't think its the shockers though as it did it with the old factory shocks before the Bilsteins went in. Got to have another play with the suspension anyway as I've got new airbags (Airbagman) coming. I thought it might be due to panhard rubbers or rubbers in whatever stops lateral movement. Havn't had a look yet.
