    Exclamation Auto Problem!

    Hey Guys,

Im having a major problem with my auto! i drive an HSE.

Everytime i put it in to drive and go to drive it stays in first and wont change up.

The neutral light is on even tho its in drive...also when i put it into third it lights up reverse and i dont wanna push it because it feels like its conflicting....i have fluid in the gear box and its always run fine until now never had an issue except for the occasional "Gear Box Fault" which then it starts to change really harsh but when i switch it off and back on it runs fine again...

i started it this morning and it seemed to run ok and then i was driving on the highway and it started doing it again...

    please help.

    Thanks guys,

    Mike

What's the battery voltage like? I know the D2 is very susceptible to voltage but I can't say I've seen a problem like that in the RR.

i have seen the odd gearbox ECU replaced over the years but it's not a common failure point. I wonder if your inhibitor switch has died, hence the strange gear selection lights.

I don't know the answer to your problem ... but your "incorrect sequence" of "selector light" error made me think of the below suggestion that I lifted off another site .....

    "Gearbox Fault" Message

One interesting incident I experienced was the appearance of the "gearbox fault" message every time I went round a sharp right hand curve. The problem eventually proved to be a loose connector in a part of the harness that connects to the electronically controlled transmission. I have since heard from several other owners with the "Gearbox Fault" message. It apparently indicates that voltage to the transmission selector mechanism is insufficient. Another cause is failure of the transfer box ECU to communicate with the BeCM due to a bad connection or connector.

.... So loose or dry connectors???

As others have mentioned, sounds like it might be a connector issue. You've also mentioned that you like to play offroad a bit... maybe it's time for a clean-up and check underneath?

Give the transmission housing a good clean with a light hosing and scrubbing brush (make sure ignition is off). Check the connectors to the selector box on the side of the transmission housing and give the whole area a good spray of WD-40. maybe, just maybe...

Just for kicks, check that the EAT-ECU under the passenger's seat is dry and clean-ish.

    Cheers, Paul.

is it leaking oil out the breather (located behind the eas), if so it is an internal fault with the clutches, and a rebuild/replacement is needed. theres a good one on ebay ATM.

lol na im good. the gear box was rebuilt only 80 thousand ago so its fine lol. there is no oil leaking outta the breather however i did notice a very small leak coming from the line going into the gearbox sump.

i fixed that up and i drained all the oil and put fresh stuff in and it seems to be fixed

ill keep you guys posted if it happens again.

p.s i noticed it lost alot of tranny fluid when i went 4wding anyone got any suggestions?

where did you lose it from? It is quite common mechanics inadvertantly over fill them.
