Second that for a Rocky. I've got an 8yo ETS-X. I've done several endurance races on it as well as lots of "social" rides. It's taken a pounding over the years. The only things that have worn out are disc pads and tyres. I could not recommend highly enough. It is agile, climbs brilliantly and is comfortable to ride.Quote:

Haven't updated these for a while.
Couple of minor changes. The cranksets have been swapped between the bikes so the RM is now on the X0 cranks and the RaceFace turbines are on the Banshee.
The stem on the RM was changed to a Thompson 70mm aswell.
Have done quite a few K's on it now. Even ran it on a set of Minions for one ride as I think the crossmarks would have punctured so many times I would have run out of patches!
It's a very very fast bike.

Today I have fitted a set of 2013 Rockshox sid XX's (second hand purchase - just been serviced) in place of the Pikes. Also changed the front hub adaptors down to 15mm. Very nice handlbar lockout as well (rubbish pic alert!)

I keep toying with the idea of moving the Banshee on and getting the next one up.... The Dark side. I would probably do a lot more damage to myself on that though.. I've done enough on the Rune having had a few epic smashes last year.
This was one arm after a huge off at Mt Joyce shuttling the downhill tracks. Both fore arms, left upper arm, left shoulder, left side, left hip etc etc all looked like this - probably worse tbh. The impact was so hard the edge of one of the buttons on my shorts got pressed into my leg and left a perfect sized slot! :D I also had a pretty severe instant headache and a black eye and I was wearing a full face helmet and POC knee/shin guards so it could well have been a lot worse! oh and a damaged finger!

Nice effort with that crash Pete! Black eye with a full-face on! I thought my recent one was good, but yours definitely wins. Mine looks worse than it was.

When I had mine I was on my own at Mt Joyce. Sam was in Melbourne. It was also 37 degrees. I had to ride out on my own with my handle bars twisted around and blood everywhere. Driving home wasn't great either!
Worst thing was I had 3 crashes that day, and the day before I had a large one up at Outlook! Man that is a scary place!
Funny you say that Dougal. That day I ordered some POC arm guards.
So currently I have a Fox Rampage carbon helmet, POC Bone arm guards, and POC Bone VPD leg guards.
I am tempted to buy a neck brace as when I had that crash above the impact into the ground really was severe. My GPS logging showed a dead stop from just over 30. I don't really remember exactly what I did wrong but I think I hit the wrong side of a lander.

Mine was at Gap Creek on a seldom used single track we call Turkey Slap. It runs straight off the side of Vietnam to the bottom of Pipeline. There's a steep gully on one side and a steep rocky slope on the other. At one point I thought "This is really fast for a very narrow single track" I looked at my speedo (35km/h) and the front wheel slipped off the gully side. I landed on the rocky side.

I get what you are saying Kelvin, but I don't always have anyone to ride with so tend to go out on my own quite a bit. One day I may get myself in trouble but in reality I could just as easily be knocked off by a car on one of my road loops I do during the week.Quote:

My riding on my own caught me out again... Hurt myself quite badly about 10 days ago when I went over the bars on the Rocky Mountain in Nerang state Forrest.
Very hard impact into the ground at about 25-30kmh. Resultant damage was a cracked frame :( smashed phone, and a grade 3 totally torn acl in my rights houlder with the collar bone (I think) moving out of line. Also hurt both wrists and quite a lot of brusies! Seriously it hurt! a lot!
Had to put the bike back together and ride out which was heaps of fun!
Spent a few hours at the medical centre getting x rays and had a surgical consultation last week but they think it will be ok without surgery.
Anyway, I have a reasonable range of movement back now. Doctor and surgeon said I cant make it any worse. Doctor said 8 weeks off the bike, Surgeon wasnt so concerned. He basically said 2-6 weeks.
So I bought a static trainer to do a bit on. did 2 20 minute sessions yesterday and today, and already bored of that! :D
So, I have stripped down the RM and have sold off some of the parts and have just ordered a road bike.
