    ANT+ android phone app

Anyone out there using an Android phone as part of a fitness setup?

I'm chasing an app that will autostart based off of the ant+ speed sensor on a bike or by swiping on the activity start setting on a vivosmart, log the activity and then close off when the bike goes out of range, turns the sensor off or I kill the activity on the vivosmart.

The kicker is I want this to happen (bluetooth always on) without having to take the phone out of the bag, getting it to register to garminconnect would be brilliant but not essential, I mainly want it to log the distance/time on the bike automatically

At the very least I would assume the app would need to always be on to check whether there is a signal from the sensor.
There will then be an issue of stopping and starting the activity automatically, which I don't think will happen to be honest - otherwise you would end up with a series of stop start activities every time you stopped. You can get decent range on Bluetooth these days so auto stop and start based on nearness to the device isn't all that viable either.

    Might get lucky though

yeah, so far the only apps I've found that do autostart want to be active and stop logging if the phone goes to sleep.

Im after something that can sit in the background and do its job, I dont mind if it stops and starts a new activity log everytime the bike stops and nearness isnt a problem as the sensor on the bike shuts down after 5 minutes of inactivity. Im really only after it for total distance and total time ridden, if it misses 30 seconds here or there because Ive stopped the bike to cross the road or similar thats not a problem, Im not that much of a fitness junkie.

Yeah, it is a long shot to be honest - most people wouldn't be looking for that functionality, so developers aren't likely to code for it!

Garmin watches are the only things that I know of that do all of that. I've been training with these for a long time and they are excellent along with all of the supporting websites that are available for storage, data display and analysis, fitness calculations, fitness social media etc. It sounds like you're looking at more dedicated sport data logging rather than Vivo kit.

yeah, with the vivosmart I can get what I need but I have the proper VivosmartHR (not just the one bundled with a heart monitor) which was originally advertised as being able to do it but the fucntionality was pulled.

My MIO Alpha + Endomondo Premium do this. Once you start it it auto stops and starts all the time, The trick is to link it to the app, not the phone and Endomondo Premium does this perfectly
