Handy little tool for firewall grommets

a long time ago while i was working as an accessory fitter, i was given a long, flat strip of stainless maybe 3-4mm wide with a flattened out loop on one end, and was told that i'd need it for feeding wires through firewall grommets

tried for ages to source another one, then i suddenly discovered how to make one

1: find a vehicle which still has its factory fitted wipers (rubber with metal strips in it, not plastic backed)
2: replace the wiper blade, keep the stainless steel strips
3: with a pair of pliers, bend the tip around untill it resembles a flattened P

    ________

you now have a thin metal strip which can be slid beside existing wiring through factory fitted wiring grommets, and if you carefully thread a pull wire through the loop and tape it up, you will be able to pull larger (within reason) cables through the grommets without cutting, drilling new holes, etc etc

Something that works just as well if the wipers cant be used/found is the 'bristles' off a street sweeper brush.

They are flat steel around 3-4mm wide by 1-2mm thick. Bendable, strong and weldable.

Usually find a couple after the street sweepers go past or the local council would have thousands laying around.

Very handy things to have in the shed.

Those street sweeper bristles are good for making lock picks too (allegedly).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

There's a business opportunity if ever I have seen one!

Any wonder Melbourne rates so highly as 'the cleanest city in Australia'.
