200tdi Defender Timing Belt Change tutorial

After much searching and reading through irrelivent threads, I've almost pulled my hair out and have decided to post a new question.

Has anyone done a timing belt change on a 200tdi Deefer using the Haynes book?
Is there any other tutorials out there that may be better?

any special tools i need to get before i dive into this job head first?

I've done a T.Belt on a small toyota engine before, and the only trick (that i picked up by watching someone else) was to put a long breaker bar on the drive shaft bolt and give the engine a little quick turn over while the breaker bar was braced against the chassis, crack! the nut is loosened!
    worked great.

    Hi there
I have just done the timbing belt, tensioners, crank seal, cam seal, cover seal etc etc on my disco 200tdi, i'm not sure if they are the same or not though?
Anyhow, to get the crank bolt off i had to use a 30mm socket on a breaker bar leant gainst the chassis, then gave the ignition key a twitch and that did the job
Before you try this though remember to disconect the little plug that plugs into the back of the injector pump to stop the engine from starting while cracking the crank bolt
if the defender engine fan is the same as a disco one, you will most likely need a modified open end spanner to be able to undo the fan nut, i had access toone so there were no issues there for me.

The next problem i came accross was moving the crank shaft dampner pulley, i had to make up a puller that used the threaded holes in the dampner to pull off. it came pretty easy once i had made the puller.

then i had to remove the crank shaft gear which was probably the hardest part of it, you will only need to remove this if you are going to replace the crank seal though.
To remove this i had to heat it up with a heat gun then get a pry bar behind the gear and bash the s**t out of the pry bar until it finaly moved

But aparently they can be all most impossible to pry off sometimes so out comes the angle grinder is that case

The rest is pretty strate forward, you will need to find the correct size bolt or pin to slip into the injector gear to position it correctly when fitting the belt.

I used the Haynes workshop manual but found it to be a bit confusing so found the big grey land rover discovery work shop manual/folder the best

If you get stuck i might beable to some how send some of the info from the disco workshop manual to you if need be.

    CHEERS TIM.

    cheers

thanks mate, i'm not sure how many other differences there are, but i've read in my searches for info here that the Deefer has no idler pully in the 200tdi unlike the Disco 200.
so thats a nice little simplification.

no one else out there done their Defender 200TDI T.Belt?
