    Disco 1 Rear Drawer Setup

    Hey all!

I've got to knock up a rear drawer/shelf setup over the next couple of weeks. Anyway, I've been losing plenty of sleep brain-storming and been messing around with layouts. This isn't the 'expedition setup' (that comes later), but need something to do all of my needs for the next year or two.

It will be sitting behind a cargo barrier and this explains the 'stepped back on the unit'. I have planned on using 16mm plywood for strength, and already have 4 pairs of 550mm Hafele drawer sliders. Covering will be in marine carpet...Bunnings special. I haven't decided on what to make the drawers out of (want the fronts matching the unit though), and still need to figure out handles and locks.

Here's my favourite out of a dozen or so I drew up today (at the office on my day off ), and would like feed-back of any kind to help refine it.

Just to explain what's what with it... The top row: left section I've since decided to make into a drawer. Next to it is a 3-drawer middle drawer set for a tool chest/rollcab setup, and will be bolted in. Above that is some checker-plate as a small workbench. Behind that is a lidded storage bin for spares parts or bulkier/less likely used items.

    Bottom row:
This is the cavity for my Waeco CDF-35 fridge and will slide out (air vent at the rear). To the right of that is a 23lt water tank (rough knockup of what it looks like anyway ). On the far right is obviously 2-drawers for cooking/food/misc items. Under those, is a slide out bench. Before anybody suggests, I will also be doing the tailgate full length fold down table conversion incase I need a larger bench space than the slide out one (maybe one for grimy stuff, the other for food preparation). Oh yeah, and the section behind the wheel arches is already taken with an amp on the left and a slimline sub on the right, so these need protecting and air circulation.

Cheers for your time and eagerly await the feedback.

    Disco 1 Rear Draw Setup

Set up looks good i just question 16mm ply, this will wiegh quite a lot in ply alone.
I made a set up 4yrs ago out of 12mm and this has served well. With my 40ltr engle had to chop out bit of cargo barrier so it would fit,
still hits tail gate with no room 4 drop down table to be made. What will overall height be.

    look around for caravan handles/locks.
I have a set of 'pushbuton' locks the push in to lock the drawer shut, and push/togle out to become a handle and unlock the drawer.

locking those sliding drawers is an important thing, especially if you have 3 drawers of tools and park on a hill!!

    Sorry for the late reply,

But I have a homemade draw setup for the back of a D1 that you can have for free without the fridge slide, or $200 with the fridge slide.
Its made from ply and steel shs.
If you want it just give me a PM, I live near Chaddy shopping centre.
