Power steering coversion to F100 2WD

An old friend of mine now 73 years old has an immaculate 72 model F100 with the 302 Cleavland. He has owned it since new and has only has done 130 000.
Would be one of the best I've ever seen.

Long story cut short Bill has driven my old 45 series cruiser and was suitably impressed with the power steering conversion I had done a wile back. Being 73 "Bill" cant cope with the arm strong steering on his "F Truck" wile parking etc. Understandably he doesn't want to part with it either.

So only one thing to do....

The genuine 2WD RHD F series power steering boxes are hard to find as are the alternative.

The problem we have is the early 2WD F trucks ran the steering box behind the front axle. The latter and far more common 4WD F100,150, Bronco are radically different as run a revised front end and the steering box is at the front.
I have looked at Toyota crown's,cressida etc but are too short for the pitman arm to clear. Most other alternatives are the wrong way around!

We are looking at using a Datsun 260 or 280 C steering box with a custom pitman arm and an EB adjustable steering column. It's not going to be cheap to do
Good 260/280 C boxes can fetch up the 2K let alone the pitman arm etc

If there is any interest I will post up the progress

    Tony

Theres a mob in QLD i think, they advertise in the parts peddler, that deals only in F series fords & they have the power steering boxes for about $600 & you would be able to get any other parts needed to do the conversion..

Thanks for that. I happen to have a copy of parts peddler so will have a look. I have found a mob in south Aus that have the custom pitman arm for the Dato steering box.

Finding the long quadrant shaft ZF steering box is difficult Does anyone have an old Nissan 260C or 280C lying about?

I'm pretty sure these guys would be able to supply anything at all to do with F-Trucks. There's not much they wouldn't know about them.
