Davit lift; Vice; Wire baskets
Only got a couple of things small things done this weekend. I have been straining my back lifting things (mainly Defender tyres) up and down a wonky ladder from my mezanine storage area, so I thought I'd install an electric "davit" lift on a swing arm. Bent up the arm from some steel tube and made a couple of hinges to fix it to the shed. Bit of welding and it's a good'un. It can lift 100Kg so Defender tyres + rims are no worries.

Also installed a small vice to the rear of the tray and bent up some wire baskets to fit in the underside storage are. There are 4 baskets 1m long each which go the whole length of the underside of the canopy. These trays will hold heavy stuff that we don't need to use very often, like spare parts and oil and tools.

Am waiting for Capral Aluminium to come back from Xmas/NY holidays, so I can buy the ally beams to hold the roof on. When I get them I can measure up and cut the hole in the roof and make a big hinge for the front of the canopy to get the roof pivoting up and down.

Pipe bender - Started my Rock Sliders
I got my Pipe Bender set up and tested, so thought the first thing to do was begin my rock sliders by bending up a couple of "arms" which will protrude out from the side of the sliders.
The bender is an ingeniuos design. Simple but complicated! With only moderate force it bends tube very accurately. It has a protractor to show you how far you've gone, so getting 90 degree bends (or whatever) is a snap.

The bender ships from the USA with out a stand, so I just made one out of some old H beam I had lying around the farm. Same with the handle, just a piece of alloy I had.
The tube I am bending up is your standard issue "bullbar" size steel tubing the same as used by ARB or TJM. I've got some lengths of 34mm and 50mm diameter tube, which are identical to the tube on my bullbar.

I want the side bars to be at a bit of an angle, instead of sticking straight out, so I am cutting them at 20 degrees (downwards angle). I have seen a few where they are 45 degrees, but this is too much I reckon. The maths to do the cut is a bit tricky and I had to completely re-make one side when I cut one side much shorted than the other, but now I have "got it".

That's it for this weekend. Next on the list is to cut some short brackets to support the side runners on the sliders (3 per side), and to weld up the roof beams to support the roof properly. It's heading towards midnight so I am going to crash.
Cheers
David
