Well time is coming closer to our leave date 22.04.11

Starting to get a little stressed about a few things, I really have to get my head around what I have turned my vehicle into. It's no longer my tinny old fishing truck,big hollow and empty. It's now a touring vehicle with ply bed and storage, extra fuel,water,fridge, recovery gear, clothes, food, fishing/hunting gear, and assorted other bits and pieces. I have also added a ladder the side runner steps an extra spare wheel and a rooftop boat and small engine. This will change the way I use my vehicle off road, not to mention braking and handling on road.

I put HD lovells underneath anticipating the weight and I'm not fully loaded and seeing a sag in the rear. I will start another thread asking about acceptable rear ride height. seriously considering rear air helper bags.

Today's jobs.

Got stuck into the hoses under the bonnet. Any oil, water, or fuel hose that looked at all suspect was ripped and replaced new for old. That reminds me!! I'll have to get out and prime the beast before she goes to the mechanic tomorrow morning.

I also replaced the hose clamps also, the old hose clamps get a spray of WD40 AND GO IN THE SPARES BOX FOR TRAVELING. They are great to get you or others out of a situation on the road and handy to have about.

I also wired up my spotlights. One thing I have learned about wiring jobs when doing a build project:
think about what exactly you want to wire up. lights, compressor, winch, UHF etc etc and attack it at once over a couple of days. If you can
Repeatedly going back to the wiring between drives means you have to pull the dash apart, split the looms and and go searching for actives and earths all over again. REAL PAIN.

Loving this build up mate, I'm planning on taking my County around OZ as well, surfing/fishing and this is giving me some good ideas!

Great thread, love your work. Just a bit concerned about your gas bottle for the stove. Unless you have vents there for it, it could be unroadworthy or at least dangerous.
I have dumped my stove for the conveniance and performance of two of the single burners with disposeable cartriges. the gas costs more but the size works for me in my set up.
I changed rego here in Qld it went down to a 5 seater because no dickie seats were in it, no mod plate needed.

Hmmm, I could punch a hole and whack a vent on the outer door skin? but I have the pull out draw I'm not concerned about the gas. The bottle is easily removable for rego. Or, do you mean it leaking while we are driving and filling the cab?? That could be a worry!

I have had the county at my favoured specialist landrover mechanic for the past two days. It got a major service, all fluids and filters changed, valve clearances checked and so on.

I got it home this afternoon and decided to fit the small gravity feed water to the rack.

I've been worried about any water or fuel on the roof due to weight BUT, i made the tank and filled it complete with water and weighed it. It weighs about 28kg full, this is acceptable for washing up and quick showers etc.

I have a mate who is an industrial plumber and helped me with the bits. Lets just say some fat cat sydney developer payed for it. I used flexi strut fittings to fix it to my rack and they are bomb proof! rigid as, and the tank wont need baffels as it only has 150mm to wash side to side

YES i fitted the tap to the cap on the filler joint ages ago and totally measured the tap up side down. will go get a new cap tomorrow and re adjust!

Do you have an "air in" so to speak?

If not, then I think that "up tap" is your vent so all you have to do is install same at the bottom, but pointing down.

I think your water system will get you more queries than the rest of the conversion combined. It is a good idea, quite unique I would say.
