    Looking good Kelvin,
If its not out of line... on an offroad trailer watch that chassis-to-Aframe connection. Many would argue not to weld across the top of the RHS.

Eitherway I would be gussetting/bracing that joint. It see huge loads.
Also If you had the steel I would run a diagonal back from where the Aframe ends to the front spring hanger. Effectively a diamond shape out to outer chassis rail back in to the springs. Will stiffen the frame, tie the A to the springs and seal up the RHS!

    Looking good.

When I built my HCPU trailer I was advised similarly re "not to weld across .........the RHS" at critical load points.

    Here's what I did -
Where the 'A' Frame meets the 'box' section - different design 'A' frame but same principle.

    and at the spring hangers

Over 50,000kms and no signs of failure - just a repaint required after all the gravel roads and subsequent 'sandblasting'.

BTW, Nice buildup so far Kelvin.

Re those stabiliser legs, how does the adjustment work on them? I need to replace my rather lightweight ones with something more substantial and they look like they might fit the bill.

    thanks guys

i will have a look at your suggestions, didn't realise the bit about welding across

the first trip is all black top except port to cook town so not too punishing, i'm sure it will evolve as the years go on

this is the tent that will be going onto the trailer

the walls will be adjustable so that i can still use it on the defender, there will also be a zippered awning to cover the kitchen

    • fitted rego plate
    • fitted reflectors however i have some landie ones on order
    • organised ally box to sit on top
    • fitted tow hitch
    • fitted u-bolt to axle
    • test drive around the block tonly to discover i had frgotten to do up the wheel nuts
    • 80km test drive tonight, when i hit the dirt roads i soon stopped to lower the tyre pressures to 18psi.....down from 40psi

must remember to get some safety chain
might take back the jockey wheel, are they all hopeless at full extension i.e swivelling

    Tent

    Hey kelvin
What type of tent are you using. That will be the next thing on our trailer to change. Currently have roof top but need more room. By the look of yours you could easily sleep 2 up and 2 down???.

ps, just finished the coil conversion on ours. Boy what a job I hope its worth it.

    Justin
