    Provent installation in 300Tdi Defender

It has taken me absolute ages to get around to fitting the Provent to my 300Tdi Defender.

On a 300Tdi Discovery it looked like it was a fairly straight forward fit but not so on the Defender even with the amount of free space available in the engine bay.

I had played with fitting it to quite a few different locations around the motor but settled on in front of the brake booster and behind the water reservoir.

I made up a support bracket and attached the Provent but I did not finish the installation as there were parts to be made, hoses and elbow fittings to source, so it just sat in the engine bay unused until now.

This location is the best position, in my opinion as it provides the most direct routing of pipes and should improve air flow. In addition the oil return line is almost in a straight line whilst including the one way valve. "roverrescue" (Steve) also came up with this location.

The existing PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) canister was removed so there wouldn't be any device duplication and it should improve the affectiveness of the Provent.

The most time consuming aspect with this type of installation is that a flange for the rocker cover needs to be made.

Also the oil return pipe bracket needs to be modified to have the steel pipe removed and a straight barb fitting fitted.

Hoses were sourced from old 300Tdi's and 200Tdi's and cut to size. Three 90 degree elbows were needed to join the hoses in this tight position.

The only negative with this whole installation is that it means the two venting pipes need to be removed to fit a new air filter or to work on the injector pump, but I think this is a small price to pay for the huge benefits that the Provent provides.

I hope this saves you time and head scratching trying to fit the Provent to your 300Tdi Defender.

Excuse my ignorance Minnie, but what does the provent do? I'm always up for improving the performance of mine.

    Hi Gerald,

Have a look at this link, it has a fair amount of information about it.

This set up is what I’m after, is flange adapter now available? Or do I need to make my own.

I don’t know if there is a adaptor available but I’m thinking of one of these Discovery 200 or 300 Tdi oil breather tank - AlliSport hopefully would stop most of the oil mist unless you have excessive blow by and by the time you buy a Provent and fittings it would be cheaper

Just a check in on an old thread...

    Hi folks,

I see the various posts and threads, just wondering if anyone know if the piece that connects the Provent tube to the rocker cover(as in the original PCV) is being sold commercially anywhere. Not sure my fabrication skills are up to the task, and as it seems a popular choice I thought someone may be making them.

    Many thanks
    Jean
