Goingbush,
Great little tip for extra gauge setup, like it!
David
Fitted Aux tank & no where to mount new Fuel gauge.
Also have orig Clock which was replaced by tacho so I might mount that whilst Im at it.
scratch around in the shed & I have a light bulb moment , The Gauge fits in a 50mm pvc plumbing elbow.
This is what A hours work resulted in (not including glue cure time)
step by step images below.
Sort of looks a bit like a puma a/c vent if you really stretch the imagination.
cut & sand off the bottom of the elbows
completely sand away the ashtray knob & the surface of the bakelite / resin lid,
careful it stinks so is probably toxic, wear a mask
drill two holes so you can pass your wires thru, go right thru the bottom of the ashtray, careful the bakelite will break if you go too hard
glue the 'pods' on with your favourite goop, I love JB Weld.
I glued the ashtray lid shut too
when dry flash a coat of plastic paint over the lot
Wrap a few turns of tape around the gauge for a push fit into the pod, you could use a bit of silicone sparingly!
The cable coming out the switch blank is the power cord for the Garmin GPS, The wires for the gauges go thru an existing hole underneath the ashtray.
If one was pedantic one could sand off the mould marks before painting, & fillet the glue around the bottom, Im not one so I didn't bother, after all its a Defender,
VBG !!
cheers Don

G'day Don,
That looks great, nice work.
What kind of tacho did you replace your original clock with?
Cheers,
Alistair
Hi Alistair,
thanks,
The Tacho was put in by prev owner, but he gave me the orig clock that was left over, however I believe the Tacho he used is one of these

Cheers,
Thanks for that.
Looks nice, a bit too pricey for me at the moment though, at £250.00 I think i'll find another alternative.![]()
