Around Australia Touring Defender Build

Next up on the agenda was to install the Thermoguard sensor for the Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge... of course it was never a simple matter of unbolting the turbo and drilling a hole! Snapped one of the studs off and rounded a nut... so was forced to take the whole manifold off. Decided to take it to a Turbo specialist to get it serviced and fix the broken studs....

... $1400 later :eek: she's fully overhauled. Good as new so that's one less worry when I'm deep in inland Australia.

Took the alternator off and will replace it and the water pump now seeing I have easy access to that area. Just to be sure.. to be sure... to be sure... ;)

Thanks Bushman83 for the inspiration to get keep these old Landys going. I also have a 200tdi 94' 110 an just drove it from Syd to Perth an back around the south coast. It went great with only a few minor breaks along the way. I plan on dyna matting mine soon as well as it reached 47 degrees on the Nullabore an the gearbox was hot enough to cook off, but the 200tdi didn't even get hot. These vids a real inspirational thanks again.

What a brilliant build thread! With the amount of care and thought you've put into the build I'm sure you'll have a trouble free trip mate. Kudos to you!

Part 3 now complete. Have been buying up some more parts. Will be busy soon with their installation. :)

Terrafirma uprated steering rods. New power steering pump and box. An Allisport uprated double core intercooler. A Blue Sea Systems dual battery Automatic Charging Relay. And a new seat foam base.

I have a Boab 48L tank for water storage during those long periods camping.

A new bonnet protector to strengthen the bonnet so I can stand on it with my tripod and shoot more films.
