Does anyone have a broken D2 door lock I can experiment with?

I have a faulty front passenger door lock on my D2, but I would like to see how reparable they could possibly be. If anyone has an old broken one that I could have or buy, that would be great. I can pay for postage if interstate. Front, Back, Left or Right will do.

    Cheers

From my experiences with the lock, 2 problems can occur.

The first was with the early locks that jammed due to dust and the fix was to remove the spring on the lever for the child-proof lock. With this problem the door could not be opened from inside. Later locks had a larger diameter spring with slightly different mounting.

The second was with later model locks that once worn could not be moved far enough due to fouling the hole in the door skin so the fix for this one is to enlarge the door skin hole. With this problem the inside handle still opened the door so the emergency release with a cargo barrier installed was a long piece of wire with a hook on its end.

Whoops. I was thinking of the 4 passenger doors, not the back door, I just re-read my post and edited it to make it clear.
    Thanks

    Hi Marc

I may have one in a couple of weeks as my drivers door one has gone. I'll PM you if it becomes available.

    Cheers

sounds more like a disco 1 problem, what im find is that the two motors inside play up

The discovery 1 problem can be fixed by replacing springs, but apparently the Discovery 2 problem is harder or impossible to fix? I plan to challenge this idea, I might fail or I might be able to offer a solution.

    Marc,

I have found the hardest part is trying to open the unit its self. the plastic clips tend to break when you are unclipping them and the rivet is a bugger to drill out. never got around to testing them motors to see if that what was the problem.

yes like you would like to see if repairs can be done on them as i have gone through about 6 of them and 2 on the rear cargo door

    Gday Marc,

I just replaced my LH rear door latch, it would still lock but you had to unlock it manually. You are welcome to it but I think the rear's are different to the fronts on my car 2001 D2, at least the PN's were different when I purchased the new one so it might be no good to you.

    Cheers,
    Damo

Im happy to get any unit, more the better at this stage, its more about trying to find a cause to the issue, and less about fixing mine. Fixing mine will be a bonus if i can find a common cause.

    Thanks
    Marc
