Just to mix things up - and Im sure you cant change your setups Sitec and iClick
BUT we have our roof top tent setup at the rear of the rack, opens forward onto remainder of rack with the door open just onto the roof.

I built a short ladder that hooks onto the side rails. So you climb onto bonnet, then up onto the roof or as we like to call it the deck... and into the tent.

    Benefits:
1/ wake up in the morning, step out onto the deck can stretch legs and enjoy the view before climbing down.
2/ Having a shower at night, just bucket shower on the bonnet, up onto the deck to dry off - clean feet into to bed.
3/ I can have a 2am leak without toppling off the ladder

We tried the ladder off the back thing but it got tired real quick

I spose one day Ill plate the roof (deck) so we dont keep denting it so much but gee it works well!

Just an idea for your mobile worlds!

Hello all! Roverrescue, eventually I might try solar but have a good and simple dual battery set up, and even though the body will be staying at camp, us in the vehicle rarely do so the second battery always gets that decent top up. Re facing the tent the other way, We did think about it, but the vehicle came with a large roof rack, and as I've kept my tray short (1600mm), the front of the tent is only about 400mm from the rack. Not only that, it's always a crowd pleaser in camp watching SWIMBO trying to navigate the ladder when she's plastered!!!
You r right re 'nitetime watering' with a view though!!!
iClick, I'll draw up a simple sketch of what I did along with some daylight pictures and post them on here for you.

I've still not managed to work out how to attach more than one pic.. Each time I attach the second one it overwrites the first!! Maybe I have to post it then add another??!!

towe0609, I'm sure I've seen your vehicle somewhere before... Did you buy it as a cab chassis about 3 yrs ago?

    Sitec,

Can I suggest that where each sheet touches the frame work you run Sikaflex along the area when joining... This will stop any drum noise
against the frame as seems to occur, also will strengthen the set up
considerably. Less pop rivets/screws but they will still be needed.

As for the legs I assume you will just have sleeved legs to move up and down with pins and the adjustment will be for the very bottom of the leg?

Was this all brought on by Melrose?

    watching and enjoying,

    thanks.

PS The HO HARS slide on is a ripper and worth a look at the thread

Hi digger. Yup, have exactly that.. Wurth bond and seal/Sikaflex, and I'm using CSK blind 5mm rivets. Re the legs, they are made out of 50 x 50 RHS, with 45 x 45 RHS inside. They're just over a meter tall and are running M16 threaded rod inside.... Driven by my cordless! No pins or legs to loose then! As for Melrose... It was supposed to be finished by then.... the frame and plans have been sat in the workshop for the past 8 months! Melrose just pushed me back into gear. Has to be done as we are headed to the Vic High Country in a few weeks, and I am NOT folding that tent up daily!!!!

Well, I love to cut things fine... Finished gluing the panels on tonight, so now onto re assembling the swivels that had started to leak like a sieve a few weeks ago, riveting the panels tomorrow, quick buff and etch, roof tent on on fri avo, and off to the High Country on sat morning!!!!

And from the front! The purpose built canvas top will have to wait until we're home, as will the white top coat!!! Anyone know the paint code for a 99 Defender 130??? Where it says 'paint' on the I.D plate, the space beside it is blank!!!

    Awesome!!
How long is the tray/pod overall (excluding spare wheels)?
Some more details on the legs would be great too. Particularly construction and how you've attached them.
