For anyone interested I'll be going to Corowa this Saturday to have a look at the ex-mil swim in. lots of old Landies, Perenties etc. Look me up if you're there and want to check out the tank on my 130.

The reason I mention this is that I think an 'A' frame may be a bit too complex for such a recovery where there is more than likely someone available to steer the broken down vehicle and hence a solid bar would suffice.
With current legislation, anything that would be legal to tow on public roads would be extremely complex so I think the intended use for such a towing device as suggested needs to be very carefully considered and kept as simple as possible while still achieving the desired purpose, whether that be a road legal towing device or an emergency remote area recovery/towing device. Need to also consider how the towing device would be attached to the front of a vehicle.

I like the idea of the dual purpose side steps. When I was a kid my Dad had a solid tow that we used with the Series IIa LWB before winches were readily available. But there was always the problem of carrying it. The side step thing I think would be great.
And great work on the tanks! I am looking for a suitable 130 to purchase at present and this will be a great accessory to add when we do.
