I am also continuing with the sound proofing. Ping Jing everywhere, and other sound insulation materials from carbuilders.com.au. Time consuming process, mainly cleaning and wiping down everything. Applying doesn't take too long at all. Cutting to shape takes a while and a bit of guess work.

While I was there I took apart the dash and am tidying up a lot of the wiring.

I will hopefully have the front completes soon and I will be cutting new carpets out of black marine carpet from clarke rubber.

As far as how the car is running it is better, still a bit hard to start but not like it used to be. Need to spend more time driving it to find out.

Oh, while I am at it, how do remove the lower part of the dash? I have removed all obvious scres but it still feels very firmly in place?

    November update

Lots to update! Car is running ok. Had a tune but it needs s new choke cable so trying to source one but really struggling to find one! Below is a list of what has been done:

    • Black marine carpet installed
    • lotsss of sound proofing everywhere
    • dash recovered in black vinyl
    • mud UK dash console installed
    • headlining finished and installed
    • coolant flush and new thermostat
    • tinted the windows
    • repaired rear windows with 2013 ones
    • new rear wiper motor
    • replaced all door seals
    • repaired rust and painted inside of front doors

I can't figure out how to add photos directly from my phone so I will upload them when I have a but of time on the computer.

I am now focused on getting ut running well once I can find a choke cable.

I also need to get the rear seat installed and the load area all tidied up. Can't wait for some spare time to do it!

I also have some newer defender seats that I will try and tidy up and put them in

I have a brand spanking new genuine Land Rover choke cable sitting idle in my shed if you need one.
    PM or reply if interested.

Just cleaning out the shed, found a choke cable assembly for a 110 V8 if you're still looking for one.

    PM me.

    Cheers

I really need to check this more often as I spent a bomb on a choke cable from land rover. Thank you above for the offers!

The car is now running well and I am continuing with the interior fit out. I will post more pictures when I get onto the computer

    July 2017 update

The to do list continues but in summary:
Interior nearly finished, currently wiring in the dual battery setup with a 105 ah deep cycle and a simple VSR setup.
Mechanically it is going pretty well, still a bit rich but needs a good tune by someone who knows carbies better than me
Exterior is just about done. Need a tray for the roof rack, and a hoop for the bumper.

It is now at the point where I can drive it around comfortably and reliably. It is a billion times quieter inside. at 100kph we can easily have a conversation without raising our voices at all. When there is no wind noise (below say 40kph) just about the only thing you can hear is a slight whine from the gearbox and a quiet purr from the v8. Road noise is all but eliminated until you hit above 60kph or the road is rough.

Over the next week I will be working hard on making the camp setup in it. This is the reason i bought the car, I have put heaps of thought into planning it. Now it is time to make it.
