for the fuel cell, as a temp measure use a fuel tank from an outboard.

Anyone got any 'must do's' for the engine?
It currently has it's rocker covers off and the rocker shafts bathing in diesel. But how far do we go? We don't want to rebuild the engine or spend too much money on it.
If we are going to need to spend money on it I would rather take it out and rebuild a 4.6 for it.
The Crossroad was simply a re-badged D1 done solely for Honda to sell into the Japanese Domestic Market as part of the joint venture between LR and Honda. They were built in Solihull so suffered the same quality problems as the Disco. LR also sold the Disco in Japan.
We didn't get them here as they were only sold in Japan. Any in New Zealand would be grey imports.
Cheers,
Jon
I once saw a D1 with Honda badging driven by Japper Back Packers.I thought they were taking the ****.Obviously they wernt and had great taste in an overland vehicle compared to their own countrys offerings
It did have international plates.

8mm 12 point....
sounds like pretty much every quality 1/4 inch drive 8mm bi hex socket to me...
unless at some point 2 6 point hexes off set 30 degrees no longer ads up to a 12 point icositeragon.
yes, bored with an internet connection.
thin wall 3/8 tapered deep reach sockets will also get them.
if its that badly cakced that the rockers are stiff you might want to have a look at pulling the valley cover apart and eyeing the cam, if the cam is pitted or has worn lobes you can rejuvinate a surprising amount by putting in a new cam and chain even more so if you go for a more aggressive cam. Doing will mean pulling the radiator and front end down but can be done with the engine bolted in place and without removing the heads. Before you go that far though I'd run a compression test first.
While you have the injectors off, get them soaking in white spirit with a dummy harness and an indicator flasher circut set up to pulse them to clean them out.
Get a good quality endoscope down the back of the heads and have a very close look at the gasket. if it looks weepy get the heads off and swap the gaskets before they let go.. If your doing that much....

Yeah thanks, I managed to find one at supercheap. A lot of socket sets don't do 12 point below a certain size, usually around 10mm.
Thanks for all that advice mate. I'll have to talk to the co-founder, I'm not sure how much we want to spend on gaskets pulling the engine apart let alone new cams and chain
A photo of the other side, it's disheartening seeing such a filthy engine. When I took the rocker cover off the Isuzu for the first time I was amazed how clean it all was. There has been a lot of neglect with this vehicle.

Ok here are the progress shots from Thursday night
Interior nearly completely stripped
Dash is out and the loom is coming apart. We need to make sure we keep the electric windows and gauge cluster loom in tack. I might be investing in one of Daves CDs.
Rust, rust , rust! A little annoying to have such large holes to patch. We are still trying to get hold of a welder so we can throw some rough patches on and tidy up the rest of the rust.
Drivers side. Holes along the sill and a big one in front of the seat frame on the trans tunnel.
Passengers side is worse. Two huge holes, pretty sure you will be able to spot them haha.
Externally, the front bumper is off, side steps removed, sway bars binned and still removing the rear air con piping.
We need to ditch some weight off the front, the back has come up so high we can't get it out of the garage now haha!
Once the rust is patched and painted we'll start the exciting part, chopping the back!
We have looked at a few photos of ute chops and are still deciding the best way to do it.
The pile of crap that has come out, the photo doesn't do it justice, there is so much rubbish! Also this doesn't include the keep me pile.
