    SWB 2a Rear Seat advice!

    Hi everyone,

I'm restoring a Series 2a SWB and looking at a specific seating option in the tub area for my kids. For safety reasons I'm not a fan of the traditional benches and so I'm looking in to forward facing folding jump seats similar to those in the Defender 90. I've sourced a quality option comprising of a Exmoor trim seat which includes a 3-point inertial seat belt system, so from a safety perspective it would be a lot safer than the bench seat. Being a soft top with a canopy I'll be having a custom made roll bars which the seat belt will be connected to.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with something similar to this? Or any insight into possible challenges with getting this configuration approved by NSW Roads & Maritime?

Thank you in advance to any advice or suggestions!

    Cheers,
    Guy

You need to find an engineer and discuss with him. On the face of it, it sounds as if what you propose should be acceptable, but could get a bit expensive by the end.

    SWB 2a Rear Seat

    Hi Freebs,

I just purchased a S2A and I'm considering the exact same mod. I emailed exmoor and they advised that the only way to do it is to swap the rear tub with a defender tub. This seems a little strange as I'm sure it only reuires a few holes to attach. Can you advise if you completed the install and if it was an expensive mod?

I'd seek more information before swapping to a Defender tub (which is going to be hard to find as swb Defenders are rare in Australia). I don't think the wheel arch is in the same position.

The reason for Exmoor's advice is probably because the defender tub has reinforcing and probably a different profile on the seat box compared to the Series Tub. And this is quite likely tied to the different wheel arch position.

I repeat my advice given earlier - you need to talk to an engineer before you start spending money!
