Completed a few more little but most important jobs on the roof top tent.

Initially I wanted to have electric locks on the RTT & I did install the lock but had not go around to looking at the pin. Well there is not enough room to correctly locate the 12mm S/S pin, just to close to the canvas. Will have to change the design on the next one to facilitate electric locks. So I had to look for an over centre latch ( pet hate, way to industrial for this application, I know everyone uses them on RTT ). Well I found a very nice looking one with a built in key lock, no clanging pad locks thanks. Due to the location of the awning spreader bar ( Thanks Wayne Nugget for these little bits of kit for RTT's ) when packed away, the locks had to be mounted on the side of the RTT close to the rear, hopefully nothing knocks them free. The RTT has power for the lighting as well as 4 double usb outlets so I had to find a waterproof bulkhead fitting to go through the body of the RTT, found one from the marine industry IPX7 rated & S/S.
I had to make up a few alloy blocks to mount the side awning bows into as well as strengthen the mounts for the struts on the base mounts, the 3mm alloy tabs where just bending out, a little 10mm plate at 90deg's stopped that.
Lighting is all run & working, just need to finish off the mounting block that covers & holds the electrical gear & switches.
Still awaiting on the legs to come back to me after my welder did his job installing the gussets into the RTT legs. Got some very fancy gutter mount brackets from Nugget Stuff that will hold the RTT legs onto the roof of the 90.

    Its getting closer.

    Cheers

Today is a big day for me.
Our Roof Top Tent went onto the roof of the 90 for the very first time. This has been 12months + in the making.
The slot is for the camp table to live in. I also found that the roof is strong enough to stand on for tying gear onto.
I had to do a test fit & leave it on for the week to ensure there is no problems, then painting the legs black & fit the table in place.

The Roof Top Tent is on the truck & opened ready for camping.
Setup for the first time took me about 3min. This will get a little quicker once I get used to it all.
The ladder landing I'm not super happy with & may attach it to the rear tyre carrier once its on the truck, it will have less flex.

I really like the landing as you can sit on the bed & take your boots off in comfort & there is enough room to house 2 pairs of boots on it & still have foot room.

    Vey happy with it all.

    Lets go to the Desert

Ran the first tank of fuel through the truck with the RTT & trailer on 12.7L/100, all a mix of city, HWY & hill work.

The roof of the RTT has an automotive duco finish on it that will not stand up to much abuse so something had to be changed.

We settled on Raptor Coatings to reduce the damage that an extra tyre & fire wood or anything for that matter to the roof of the tent.
This is a very simple DIY system to use, I purchased the tintable Raptor in 4 x 1Lt kit with Schultz spray gun.
Its very easy to use, add harder, colour, shake & spray.

I did the roof in Gallway Green with 2 coats & the rack for the RTT in automotive black.
    Very happy with the results

RTT is now on the truck all finished & ready for our desert trip.
The slot for the camp table works great with a very simple latch setup.
Also had an old 1.2M UHF antenna with a HD spring base in the shed. With a lick of black paint & one of those fold down mounts then I added a sand flag on the end of it. Its mounted in a way when standing upright its 3.5M from the ground.

    Cheers
