I’m kinda wondering how long before the moderators close this thread. Not sure about everyone else but I’m getting sick of the penis measuring

no one has reported any posts so mods probably aren't aware or figured the adults in the room would sort themselves out..

On another issue, I must say in my 40 years in corporate sales I never won over a customer by arguing with them or putting down the opposition products. I generally found they walked away and if asked usually did not offer a glowing endorsement to other potential customers. Your call.
20a going into a fully charged battery in that video!?
Let’s hope the DcDc unit ramps down quickly!

    Lithium Battery Install Instructions

Given I have solar permanently mounted to the roof of the car and wired to the battery having a DC-DC that prioritizes solar over alternator won’t suit me.

the Drifter video on the e-dot they use a separate Victron DC-DC and Solar regulator and they indicate the battery takes charge from both sources.

Expedition Centre uses Enerdrive for their Lithium installs, given there is generally solar fixed the the roof I assume enerdrive allows charge from two sources.

Will drop into my local supplier who sell both Victron and Enerdrive and confirm both will take advantage of solar and alternator....I fairly certain they do

Hi W&KO, and this is just a suggestion, and yes I know you and Rod don’t like suggestions put to you.

But being as you have a permanent source of solar, it make more sense to use a separate solar regulator rather that use a DC/DC unit with a solar reg.

The reason is that where a DC/DC device has a solar reg, and you have permanent solar available, you actually loose one power source driving.

If the DC/DC is a 20 amp unit then that is all you will be charging the battery with.

With a separate solar regulator, you can be charging with 20 amps via the DC/DC device and additional charging can be supplied from the solar, making for faster charging.

    Again, just a suggestion.

Please point out where I don’t like suggestions? I read all commentary and make my own decision, don’t be offended if I happen to take a different path.

My research to date tells me I need separate devices for alternator and solar, as I typed above the projector doesn’t do this therefore it’s not suitable for me, for some reason I thought Enerdrive allowed both but research last night indicated this isn’t the case ....you have provided some additional info and in this case your suggestion matches my research and my intended install.

My setup has a solar panel on the roof running through a $30 15 amp regulator directly to the battery, so no link to the alternator. This works just fine.
No need for a DC-DC charger, which would just be a waste of money. The regulator just prevents over-charging, but it's unlikely an 80 amp panel would make 15 amps anyway, so it's just a precaution.
    Keep it simple, I think.
