Installing an awning, using rack legs as mounts.
Hi All,
Just thought I'd post this up, as I've had a few passers by ask me about my awning mounts.
We do a bit of kayaking so I have always needed to get to the ends of my roof racks.
This is to mount my shower tent, which will get more use as a pre kayak trip loo than a shower.
I have installed 4 nutserts into the recess on my rack legs. I did the other side with nuts and bolts and found it a real pain.

These are the parts for the three brackets, The triangular plates were made first and I used these as a template to drill the rack legs.
The brackets are to be welded up but clamping angles for welding is problematic so I've drilled and tapped the angles to the plates to hold them for welding.

Didn't get the size right first up so have welded a tab on, to get the awning a bit lower.

Draw filed the mounting surface.

Wet sand blasted, ready for painting. Wont be using the third bracket, but have made it now as matching the others later if I change my plans would be tricky.

Painted. (Poorly)

How they mount on the back of the back of the awning. Thought that I would need the 2mm packing strip but everything was nice and flat without it.

Mounted up - Brackets onto the legs first and then the shower tent onto the brackets.

This is my awning on the other side. Tray is for the OZtent, usually doesn't live on the car, but planning to head off soonish
