    Snorkel/Dual Battery in a Disco 300Tdi

Hi just thought I'd post some details of my dual battery and snorkel install. Batteries have been in for a while and the snorkel was from 4wd Systems in Adelaide ($299 + Freight)

This snorkel means you relocate the air filter box slightly in towards the engine as the snorkel attaches to the gaurd side of air cleaner box. This means I would imagine you can use this in a 300Tdi with ABS as the other snorkelsI have seen run plumbing behind the box and connect to the engine side of the box.

Hardest Bit? 1) getting the nerve to cut the big hole! (purchased a large holesaw from the plumbing supplies) Then probably the fiddling to re mount the aircleaner box. All in all fairly easy!

Anyway pics attached so you can see the final product, it was raining when I was installing it and I don't have a shed or carport so no progress pics sorry!

    DON'T Trust the template!

    More Pics

I have ben asked for some pics and more info a couple of times so thought I'd ad a few more details for people thinking about this.

I installed my Dual battery system about 2 years before I put the snorkel on.... The easiest way I thought was to relocate your jack from under the bonnet (It fits under the passenger seat in Disco I's. Then you have a great little spot to mount a battery.

If you remove the cold air pipework that attaches between the front of the air filter box and the inner gaurd you can then trim the inlet on the air filter box back flush. This gives you more room for the battery. (When you install the snorkel this gets blanked off anyway) For more room for a bigger battery you could relocate the power steering fluid reservoir, I haven't bothered as I find the 85amp hour battery works well for our use. (I wont go in to batteries and controllers as there is toooooo much information available, just find something that works for you at a price that means you can still use your vehicle, you don't need a aux battery sitting in the drive!)

Then depending on the snorkel kit you buy will determine what changes you need to make. Below are some photo's of mine, (Please ignore the dirt! She needs a clean)
