Power Steering Conversion
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I've been working on ( mostly looking at ) a series 3 lwb Land Rover for the past several years. I would like to finish a power steering conversion that I've been stuck on for a while. The original way I did it was to replace the old steering box with a Kingswood one which had roughly the same dimensions. Unfortunately the Land Rover was designed in the northern hemisphere where everything rotates in the opposite direction. ie. the internals of the Land Rover box move the steering arm the opposite way to the Kingswood one. The result : Turn the wheel left, steers to the right. At first I thought this concept could be used to confuse car thieves but the RTA would require some convincing. I've looked at the hydraulic cylinder add on type but it seems expensive. Has anyone done a conversion on a series 3 ? Thanks, Glen.
