    Camper trailer project.

Well we are starting off with a 6x4 trailer i got of fleabay for the princely sum of $147, plan is to lift it and fit D1 steel rims on transit van hubs that my BIL gave me. Trailer will be for general carting duties and and a camper top is planned for later on. Trailer is very sound apart from the angle iron that was used to screw the plywood floor to (the angle will be cut out when the new floor goes in). It is constructed of 50mm angle and 25 & 38mm rhs tube , the 25mm side frame makes it quite strong and the main raile will be either boxed or i'll just run a 50mm tube up the guts to brace it. I'm tossing up whether to to use alloy CP for the sides attached outside the frame with plywood inside or just sheet it in steel on the inside. Side are 2500mm but will be extended to either 400 or 450mm.

Why not strengthen the chassis where the heavier suspension will go, then have it sand blasted (about $50) and galvanized.

Maybe weld pre drilled brackets for future shock absorbers as well as some where you can bolt on some engine (body) mounts and then mount an aluminium body to it. A flat top tray allows for a long / wide load and easy mounting of a slide on camper. Holes in each corner could allow you to slip in cage sides for loads that need to be contained.

They're just some ideas I'm toying with at the moment, so I thought I'd pass them on.

    ... and another idea ...

I bought a pair of LED indicator / park /stop lights at Bursons for my trailer last week. $55 with a life time warranty. The distributor has a local factory & an ebay store, but Bursons were slling them cheaper than he was.

I dont want to go to that much trouble, new floor /sides, some bracing, D1 wheels to match my car and thats about it for now. Lights work so wont touch them for now. I could go nuts on it but then if that was my plan i would have built from scratch instead of tarting up an oldy.

hit a minor snag while gathering the parts i have been collecting for this project, i was given a 45mm axle to suit holden bearings but after i removed the bearings from the trailer hubs, found that they use ford bearings . No biggie really just need a new axle all of $50 or so unless someone has one they want to swap ?
