    Hi all,
So it has been ages since my last post because I have been literally sitting waiting for the engineer to get round to writing the report for me. It took him way too long to get it to me and it wasn't until I basically told him that I was going to start all over again with another engineer who literally is just around the corner form where I live now.

Anyway, after realizing that I was serious about it I FINALLY got the paperwork a couple of weeks ago. If you are interested in some light reading:

I had to affix a tyre placard onto the door since the car now uses 255/85/R16 tyres. With such high side walls, they needed to be at fairly high pressures to get body roll under control.

I sent the car in for the blue slip, which it passed, however the mechanic told me that they weren't happy with the arrangement of the indicators being behind the bull bar (had specifically sorted that out with the engineer by adding a second set on the sides), also the power steering box was leaking. But they didn't want to get in the way of me registering it, so they said to get it fixed but gave the certificate (phew).

And the rest is history! It finally has plates now! And I took it for a burn already (it really does drive quite nicely - suspension does need some tuning though).

Next up, things I wasn't motivated to do:
    • EPDM lining of front wheel wells
    • Connect Winches
    • Install air tank and solenoids for lockers
    • Interior cabin lining
    • Side step (it's too high for my wife to get in!)
    • Canvas canopy and frame for the tray
    • Another dyno tune to improve fuel efficiency and increase boost

It will probably take me time to get through the above, but the frames for the interior lights are already in the process of being printed out on the 3D printer.

    Till next time!

Can we get a few more videos of that sweet, sweet Twin Turbo V8 sound?
Footage of the dyno run, or it didn't happen.

So I had a rare chance to get into the workshop last night. But before I get to that, I never posted the photos of the new ignition leads which solved all of my misfiring woes. A set of 9mm ICE Ignition leads. A lot of cursing involved in fitting them, there was NOT a lot of space to get my hand in between the cylinder heads and turbos...

This is what I got up to last weekend, there was a gap between the wheel well and outer guard which will allow mud to fly up into all sorts of places, so I cut up some EPDM rubber and bolted it in. It turned out pretty neat . I 3D printed the washers out of ABS with rounded edges to help hold the EPDM without tearing it.

Till next time I get a chance in the shop.

Sorry for the long radio silence, I have been chipping away at the car, but nothing major... Having said that, got a proper dyno tune today

You better have some dyno footage for us!

So if I'm reading it right,
peak torque of 497NM at 60km/h
Peak power of 178KW at 94km/h (3rd gear, approx 4000RPM)
And your boost is set at 15psi?

Any plans to up the boost?
What 'tuning' did they do as part of the 'dyno tune', or was it just a baseline run?
What happened at 3200RPM with the AFR drop, and power/torque bump?

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you Mitch! I didn't realise there was a reply here.

I don't have any crash hot video footage but here is a quick snippet. We were in a rush to get the tune done because my father was about to drive the car 1,000km up to QLD to transport some stuff up for a weekender we are building.

Yes you are reading it right.

I sort of always had 15psi in my mind for what I was going to set the car up for. I was never going for crazy power in this build but just to make it nice to drive.

It was a rushed tune to get the car ready for the 1,000km trip it was going to do the next day. I wanted to make sure timing was right for best efficiency and to make sure the engine wasn't detonating under boost. It could have definitely been tuned far more aggressively - as it is a month or so ago the centre diff was killed and I'm waiting for the $3,000 ashcroft replacement transfer case to arrive!!! My father kept spinning the front wheels on bitumen when he was driving it! Not his fault though, I did put in a second hand, dead stock transfer case in. It was bound to fail with the extra power.

I'm running the engine a bit on the lean side to keep from burning out my exhaust valves. Some how the engine control system ran a little richer at that point causing the bump in power.

A few more photos, I don't have many because the car is stuck in QLD thanks to QLD not having their border open for me to head up there!
To prepare for moving all the stuff, I had to quickly knock up a roof racking system to carry some long parts. It wasn't pretty but it worked, to connect to the bullbar I 3D printed the parts to make fabrication easy:

Here is the car when it arrived to my folks place loaded with 18 solar panels, a off grid battery system, inverter, solar hot water system and floor tiles. I would have liked to say the trip went without fault (my dad drove it back alone). A few niggling issues - A poor contact in the fuse box caused the intercooler fans to cut out. And it looks like despite me having a custom made radiator as large as I could fit in the engine bay, the engine runs warm if under load constantly (like up a hill and you put your boot into it)...

The weekender we are building on the 40 acre block in Bellthorpe, the ute certainly looks out of place!!

When I finally get the car back, I'll hopefully be able to post up some more progress. The interior isn't finished yet

So nearly a year later and I can now report on some progress again. Why the silence? Well it's a combination of:
    a) The centre diff in the transfer case blowing up while the car was in QLD (turns out it didn't like the front wheel spin on bitumen with 34" tyres!).
    b) Needing to order a replacement & uprated transfer case with limited slip diff from Ashcroft
    c) Covid hitting preventing me from getting to QLD and...
    d) The registration expiring.

I had a small window of opportunity with the temporary opening of the borders in late 2020 to swap out the transfer case on the car but complications of me trying to fit the new transfer case wondering why the hell it wouldn't go on all the way! Only to discover I was supposed to change the gearbox output shaft to one that had longer splines... By the time the correct shaft arrived in country the borders shut again, and then the car just sat there for 6 months with the registration lapsed.

Today the car was finally re-registered! Whoohoo!

I don't have too many photos of the last 12 months, but the below is what I do have:

The new Ashcroft transfer case, which I was in the process of modifying to mount the handbrake bracket (and just before I discovered my shaft problem!)

Here is the car after finally coming back from QLD. Driven down by my parents on an unregistered vehicle permit

The car arrived down from QLD running on 5 of 8 cylinders. After some troubleshooting I narrowed the problem to the Darlington transistors which power the injectors. I could only suspect that they got too hot as the injector driver is a box which is inside of another box. So parts were replaced and heat sinks added to each transistor. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of that!

So as I mentioned, today the car was re-registered and I spent some time tuning it up. I might get some videos and more photos soon! It's a bit difficult now since the last time I had the car there was only one kid! Now we have two!!
