ill be waching this one it looks the goods
Picked up this ex telstra XL body for the basis of my camper trailer project, its in pretty good nick and is fully lockable - the idea is to have everything needed for a long trip packed inside and whenever i want to go just hook it on an go. Plans so far are to paint it plymouth blue the same as the truck, use a rooftop tent with side room and annexe, pull out stainless kitchen from upwards opening compartment, long drawbar with spare and toolbox, watertank, gas bottles mounted, jerry can provisions, independant suspension, override hydraulic brakes using range rover calipers discs etc and rangie stud pattern with the same wheel/tyre combo as the rangie, i am planning on using as many parts as i can that i have collected over the last couple of years except for the new gal chassis and tent etc.
Stay tuned.

diffrent should be good
bloody briliant idea mate watching with interest........you could do a lot with a series tub as well ....
cheers
What a top notch idea!![]()
not much progress, been cleaning the last 5 years of telstra's rubbish out of it, been drawing up some designs lately for suspension, thinking going independant but not sure if it is worth the effort.
I'll post up some drawings on a couple of the ways i'm thinking of going soon but the basic ideas are:
Independant coil - cut one of my spare R/R diff housings about 300-350mm in from the ends on each side and weld rhs to it to form individual control arms for each side, going this way i retain coils (and have perch's already there and if i lift the truck its easily lifted to suit), i have a lower shock mount already fabbed and the bracket for the caliper etc... is already there - needs some drawing to explain what i mean,
Solid coil - cut the pumpkin part out of the centre and weld in some tube to make it a beam axle and keep the coils and throw some control arms etc in to locate it all
solid leaf - just your ordinary old box triler suspension - least favourable seing as though im going to all the trouble seems a waste to have such basic suspension.
cool indedendent sounds good in drawing up ideas for mine as with solid coil unlessa framed or 4 link will need a panhard
