    AYI revisited.

    Hi all,

have been off the radar for a wile and looks like I need to resubscribe here as PM box full etc

Not much progress as short on shed space etc, so cant strip her down as yet.

Have wheels in motion to move AYI to the local mens shed for a wile (Temporary) and work on it in there. Will involve our local community to some extent, but will always belong here. AULRO

I need to dig up many pms and some long lost emails on many generous offers of various spares inc a chassis and bulkhead.

Sorry I have been lapse on this, many life changing challenges that I have been up against recently have been beyond my control

Hopefully things will look up from here on.

Edit, The original AYI 077 number plates are in storage at RTA so still on the system. I have some replica's (Laminated prints only) for show use only.

    Regards, Tony

Hi foks , I may have nothing to contribute except to go around tony's place and Lend a Helping hand in restoring the old girl , I'm sure that the Labour of love to contribute into restoring AYI077 would be much appreciated by the community. Well , Tony I'll be waiting for an invite.

Trek to the Top was on this morning. Does anyone know anything about the 'big tyres' they used for that trip? I see in one shot it appears to say Goodyear on the side. What size are they?

I vaguely recall them being described as 15'' wide Goodyear Terra tyres.Wasn't much around in specialist offroad tyres back then.

Coolah has the annual Christmas street parade coming up. Depending on legalities, I plan to make a run with AYI so a few can see her. I'll need some help to create some laminated posters with clips from books etc to tell her story.

I'll get our local jurno to write a tribute for the Leyland's and in particular Mike.

Once the street carnival is out of the way, AYI will be sat on a jig and disassembled for much needed renovations. I have decided to try and save as much original metal as possible. This will be tough with the poor condition of the chassis and bulkhead.

Also need to find a complete running rover six (2.6 or 3l will do) as the 186 holden was dropped in latter in life.

Inevitably the entire vehicle will be stripped then resembled over the next years.

Well done Tony, good luck with the carnival and future restoration.

    Dont forget.

Make sure you keep in the spotlight here on aulro as I am sure plenty of us would love to contribute (in any small way) to help keep an iconic vehicle alive.
If nothing else those of us in the city may be able to help pick up bits for you from local suppliers.

Have you got a wanted list going yet? Dont be shy

    Thanks Paul,

Sure will keep things alive here, I have been inactive for various reasons hence the silence.

AYI will always belong here (AULRO)

Have been offered a chassis and bulk head etc but had no time to organise collection.

Sadly I lost a lot of contacts a wile back when we had a computer melt down.

Once she is dissembled, I'll put a wish list together. .

The local mens shed plans have fallen through ATM as my good old mate has had a turn for the worse. I'll be keeping AYI here for time being.

Making a chassis jig for her, then it wont be an issue as can move her around when I need the work shop.

Storing the parts will be the worst.

AYI survived the street parade OK. The unsuspecting driver had to do a three point turn to perform a simple U turn. Now under a large tarp being preserved till we make shed space and I have put the original plates on hold again with the RTA.

I have a massive wish list already for much needed parts and help with the ongoing refurbishment.

Main ones being a running Rover 6 donk complete with ancillaries, a 11A 6cylinder bulkhead, a 109 6 chassis in fair nick and Door frames (Mainly fronts)
From here will be door and window seals, Brake kits, minor trim work, several gauges to refurbish, working out how to age paint work to keep her charm, Some close to original decals (Two kind members have put wheels in motion for this) manufacturing the bars, racks and water tanks, winch as they used to be in the 70's.
