Sydney to Melbourne train derails north of Melbourne

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Heard on the radio this morning that ARDC(federal maintenance of rail) is behind the delays of rail travel in Victoria.

Whilst the NSW rail authority is responsible for the management of the train involved, the Australian Rail Track Corporation manages the rail line. Far too early to speculate on the cause at this stage.

Living in the area, my wife takes a train on that line twice a day (to/from work).

    It’s currently all speculation but:

    * Maintenance is due on that section of track in March (Vline shutdown for 2 weeks)

    * There was a report that the train drivers union has made a statement along the lines of “our drivers have been concerned about the condition of the track...”

    * The driver was speeding to make up lost time

    * There were signalling issues in the area at the time

As Bob says - it is all speculation at the moment.

I can say that my wife is late to work or late home at least twice a week using that line...

    Cheers,
    GG

Victorian train drivers had refused to use that section of track, which needed maintenance. Proposals to upgrade the track had been rejected. Questions should be asked.

    Typical Guardian uninformative diatribe.

Yes the driver and the pilot (not sure what the pilot does on the train - is not the driver) - both in the drivers compartment - looks at if the front of the engine went into the trees.

In years past, they would have shoveled coal, nowadays not so much, but they make sure the driver doesn't miss anything relivant. In Queensland they're called observers.
