I have done the railroad run several times alongside the line from Capertee, via Brogens to Kandos...it has its moments but mostly it is ballast and you have to watch out for short lengths of impaling star pickets....oh and trains.

    It is another 4wd adventure.

It’s the very reason I got into 4x4s in the first place, so I could get to places that are just not available otherwise.

There is actually some good off road tracks that lead to some interesting rail locations.

One of the best being the tracks in and around the Border Loop spiral up on the NSW / QLD border.

The trip into the Border Range is worth the trip by itself. , but the rail operations in the area can be spectacular.

    Cheers

Not 3801, but 3830 just went through, the northern line, dark green paint job with a ' property of the powerhouse museum ' sign on the front, this may be the future for 3801.
