Eric 5 Star Warranty Insurance - Any good?

    Hi folks.

I am wondering if anyone has had any claims experience using the Eric 5 star warranty insurance - aka extended warranty. I am considering taking the plunge to this as $2000 for 2 years versus $5000 for 2 years with the LR (Allianz) product is a tad different. I fully understand that the LR product is likely to provide much better backup, BUT, is the Eric product that much worse. I guess I am looking for mechanical disaster backup.

I will post this in the Disco section as well. Any comments would be appreciated.

    Cheers, Simmo

    Eric Warranty Extension

I know this is an old thread and the issues of extended warranty have been discussed before but just checking to see if there are any updates or recent experiences.
Have the last of the D4's 2016 TDV6 and not keen to move to the new disco model so planning to hold this vehicle for a few more years.......just love the way it drives as opposed to the new D5.
Eric have a warranty extension for 3 years up to 100,000km for $1770 which would suit me as have only done 23,000 in my D4.
Naturally always concerned about these extended warranties and how reliable they are so would appreciate any comments or recent experience with this company.
    Thanks....

    Yes, yes, yes!
I got a 5 year Eric warranty insurance policy on the G-Wagen and so far it has paid out more than twice its value. Not because anything major has gone wrong mind you. Just because the minor thing that did go wrong resulted in the radiator also getting replaced as a precaution. Plus Mercedes have parts pricing totally divorced from reality. I let the mechanic deal with them and he had no dramas whatsoever getting approval for the work.

Just be sure you dot every I and cross every T when it comes to maintaining the service schedule. For instance, I verified by email with the Eric sales bloke that I should follow the service alerts programmed into the vehicle, not the ones in the service booklet which may differ depending on the style of driving you're doing. Also I have no modifications which helps.

Did you look at the reviews on Google?
People seem to either love them or hate them.

How on earth does anyone know if they are legit reviews or just commercial plugs or slugs?

From what I've read, the people who hate insurance companies are usually the ones who didn't read the fine print then had a claim denied. And in the case of any insurer, either people get claims approved (100% favourable review, like me for instance) or denied (0% negative review). There's not really any in-between ground.

I am also deciding on extended warranty and have got a quote of $3606 and $4388 from two difference LR dealership for two years for a 2016 Discovery with 31000km.

As per Redbook quote, 3 year top cover cost $2430. I wanted to get a quote from Eric but when I called them I was told that they don't sell insurance directly to public. Does any body know who can provide a quote?

Also any comparison between the Comprehensive extended warranty from Redbook and the 5 star warranty from Eric. Not sure which is better.

    Thanks

Although I dont use any insurance or road assist , If I was concerned like you , I'd rather spend a lot less money on premium roadside assist and adjust the insurance premium to include tow assist from any location. after all if you are going to break down you will need tow assist anyway and nearly all of this currently available is subject to very limited distances .
