Most people who have had a steel rope then used synthetic don't go back, I have 4 winches here 3 dyneema and 1 steel cable the steel one is sitting under the awning not being used:)

I thought that only specific winch types could use dyneema, with some types overheating (from the brake) melting or at least compromising the integrity of dyneema rope?
Is there any significant difference between the Aldi and Super cheap winches (as seem to be suggested as perffectly OK in this thread) ? Cost ? Warranty ?
Obviously Aldi only sell theirs from 'time to time' - is that the case with super cheap also ?
Aldi are pretty good on the "if it fails take it back for a refund" thing. Is Super cheap as good?
Anyone have any idea when Aldi might next be doing their 4WD sale (winches) ?

I have recently bought the super cheap winch not fitted it yet though. It comes with 12 month warranty and I have found s c to be reasonable on warranty claims before. I have purchased other recovery gear from them as well and used it and it performs just as well as more popular brands so going with reviews on their winch is why I decided to purchase it. If you keep an eye out they quite often advertise them at half price :DQuote:

Super cheap winch is same as one of the tigerz11, either the hercules or the grsnde. Control boxes are probably different though. I've visited the factory that makes them in ningbo. Not a bad winch but there are better being made in the same region, also a lot worse.
Amp draw vs line speed is worth checking. Contactor is better than solenoids as well IMO.
Hi Guys, just jumping in here with something different.
I have just purchased a 11000lbs winch, its made by runva.
I don't know much about winches, or the brands.
While I was looking, the chinesse brands all appeared to be the same, regardless of the names, and depending where you bought it, it would be very limited warranty. ORS winch, was one company I came across which gave a 3 year warranty. The prices all similar, the better the warranty, the more you paid. Dyeenema rope seemed to be approx $100 more than cable.
I came across the runva winches, I paid $650 for 11000lb, it is smaller, bigger motor, more amp load the downside.
While comparing with very limited knowledge, this seemed to be quite a good deal, and when you start looking at the warranty, it looks even better.
Looking into the dyeneema rope, it is supposed to be a lot safer, limited whip if it was to break, and for me, the maintenence, well lack of it required.
I have mounted my winch on a cradle, and it fits into the tow bar, also my recovery point at the front is a modified towbar, hidden behind the number plate, so front and rear winch for the price of one.
So for, I tested it by pulling my self up the drive way, about 20 meters, which is pretty steep, and for real today while stuck in sand, pretty well stuck too.
right now, very happy with it, well worth a look if you are considering one.
Just my 2c, a mate received a super cheap winch for fathers day 2 years ago, on its first outing it pulled me through sticky mud in glasshouse with out drama[he wanted to test his new winch], later that day he[110] was stuck in a swampy hole and the winch went bang underload and that was it, motor working fine but gears broken, he was then pulled out with my 2nd hand $500 warn xd9000, the supercheap winch was returned for a full refund and a 2nd hand warn is now in its place. Befor everybody bashs me having a warn i will admit it has left me stranded twice-both times caused by earthing issues to the chassis which i am yet to properly fix with an earth lead to the battery[110 seat box], i will also add that i run a $57 single chinese solinoid mounted behind the top of my grill operated with a $13 wireless remote, this works extremely well for me[it does get used alot]
