Those things scare me!! Very difficult to hold a heavy load on a hill.. tho that could have had something to do with the guy operating it... The look on the drivers face of the vehicle being rescued when he went back down the hill backwards faster than he had originally done was hilarious!! Do they have a brake? I've had very little to do with a 101 winch, so can't really comment. :)
What the :o no steel cap boots & safety glasses or hard hat OR SHIRT! How did you ever survive?
:D just a dig at modern OHS....sorry to steal the thread.
I was considering one of these as mentioned, you can attach to rock sliders and pull sideways etc... I'm gonna look around on eBay too, good idea.
.
EOFY sale...good old ridge Ryder. Should be ok?
Would a Tirfor be any good for a car trailer. I've been hoping to chase up a nice old aussie made dawn hand winch for my car trailer.... They all seem to be chinese junk these days. I want it to be "manual". Trying to find a charged battery to winch a dead car on the trailer the handful of times it's used a year leaves a lot to be desired :)
Of course the bonus of this is the tirfor could live in the back of the Range Rover out of the weather (hopefully never to be used .......... but if it gets you out of the **** just once, it's worth it's weight in gold).

We'll theRyder is$200 on special, the tirfor is 430, the cable and specs appear the same. I know nothing about Ryder but my mate is a Manager at SuperChep H.O , something to check out.
I have one, but there's no way I'm letting it go! It took me long enough to get it off my father!
Brilliant thing to have though, it's about 1/10 the weight of an electric winch and I've never had a bog I can't pull the Disco out of!
