I have 2 different sizes a small one and a bigger one. (750kg & 1.5 I think ) The small one is a lot easier to lug around. When pulling tree stumps out if the little one gets too hard I put a snatch block on the the stump and return the other end of the cable back to the anchor point. Guess what the effort required on the handle is halved (approx) but it is slower to move the item. I may add that in over 30 years the tirfors get used more than the warn as they are used for moving other items around, power poles, lifting motors, steel beams, etc flying foxes etc. So to answer the initial question I would buy a tirfor first unless I was really old or was going looking for trouble regularly.
